What a Joke- Update, she got her way . . . pg6#51

Maybe the lady who reported it had a kid there that was a bit traumatized by it? Hopefully the parents of all the kids were aware of the situation.

I really don't like the way you do dishes...I think we should make a law.

Well, I am not sure I get the whole boys going out in the woods bonking/cooking rabbits thing to begin with, but whatever works for them I guess. It is sort of on the same level of the women folk staying home in a knitting circle and then making dinner for the boys (just kidding, I don't mean to judge their bonding experience, LOL). Kind of archaic gender segregated activity, but I doubt many people were forced to partake (and come to think of it that knitting circle sounds kind of fun, LOL).

I never really cared for rabbit myself anyway, but I might wear a ritualistically made rabbit coat, LOL.

^ Don't get me started on that one... drives me nuts that the BS (boy isn't that appropriate) Troop that DS, DH, FIL were all in will not EVER let DD participate. Not because of sex this or that... but because they teach REALLY useful stuff. In the years I was in GS camp the ONLY camp cooking we learned was heating a can of whatever on our 'camp stove' which was a big coffee can, top off, then cut a square out (adult had to do the snipping) then you put an empty tuna can with a teensy fire with the upended coffee can over it, then put your can of beens on top. That's it. Meanwhile in the first campout alone for DS he learned how to make baked potatoes in the coals, cobbler in a dutch oven... how to cook with and clean cast iron... building a cooking fire (how to know when the coals are ready, safety, etc.)...

All that stuff just in the first campout... vs YEARS and all I was taught was heating beans on a fire someone else built. So... yeah. Just program wise BS would be WAY more instructional than GS... but no way in hades will that happen... at least not with THIS particular troop. Doc, fella that runs it, flat out refuses to let females have anything to do with anything.

Which also explains why they had a canoe trip, and then the FOLLOWING weekend had their swimming test.

I donno with this group... sounds like this is a Father Son thing... kind of... so don't see how that's any more or less picky than Father Daughter Dances... or Girls Day Out stuff for Moms and DDs only... if that's what those folks are interested in more power to you. If you don't like it you can always go elsewhere... not like you're forced to be in that particular church.

I do wonder though about this one that did the snitching... she had 'three relatives who were at the camping trip, including her father." So, were those uncles or brothers. At 29, you wouldn't think her younger siblings (if any) would be very young... even with a 15 year gap they'd still be 14 years old already. 14 is definitely old enough to know where your food comes from IMHO. But she said it was the method that disturbed her. Someone needs to show her the vids of what happens in a turkey/chicken plant.. birds hung LIVE and then cut and allowed to splash blood all over the place in their death throws... as I said before... you want to point fingers sort out your own first.

Now, as to the park thing... well, I've never actually seen anyone kill their food AT the park (then again I'm not there all that often) but I've seen plenty of people prepping and cooking bits and pieces of animals. I didn't realize that BBQing was so offensive to people outside Texas/Southern States... of course, up North they put LIVE clams, lobsters, etc into a big brimstoney pit and cook them alive... seems to me that's a heck of a lot more cruel than knocking a critter out and THEN processing it. But maybe that's just me? I make a joke about how I like my steak cooked... "almost mooing at me" but I really don't mean it literally.

Does This Lady not eat meat? She sounds like a real peice of work. Your Right, someone does always ruin it. They also said the bunnies looked domesticated because they looked docile? I think i could tell because you never see a white rabbit in the summer lol . And by there form

"ritualistic"

I wasn't there and the report doesn't give details, but in the past when we've helped slaughter a beef at my sisters farm, I've said a quick prayer with the kids giving thanks to God for the animal that is about to give it's life for our food. Just trying to instill a sense of the sanctity of life and how the world works.

For months after the last the time we butchered, any time someone came to the house my DS and youngest DD would go to the freezer and haul out the neat-o eyeball they proudly saved from the event.

Geesh, does that mean CPS is going to get called on me for "ritualstic" practices?

Somewhere a village is missing their .......

Good point. I don't know much about Kosher, but seems like something similar is done and in a particular manner/using a particular utensil ... all those things have to be done according to scripture in order for the food to be deemed Kosher. I think... REALLY not sure, but I think so. Been that way for THOUSANDS of years, but I've not heard of anyone going after the Jewish people for their butchering practices. So long as it's clean, no health risks, quick and as painless as possible... that sort of thing then the government shouldn't care what people do/say before preparing their food...

I think maybe I'll do the hokey pokey next time I BBQ just to be facetious.
