What a surprize I got !!!

wow Deerman, thanks for sharing that. I was stunned when I saw the owl in the trap... wow

I believe it though, we have some owls out here where I live that are the size of a medium dog. I had one fly at me and my horse in the woods a few weeks ago. I thought it was a flying buick.

Sorry you lost your roo,

I'm sorry about your rooster.

You've got to admit though, he is gorgeous. Down here in S. Fl. we only have the very small burrowing owls. They just eat bugs and such. They are so cute too.

There goes his reputation as "wise old owl"! Now all the other owls are going to tease him for getting caught.

We do have Great Horned Owls here in South Fla, but it's rare to see them. I think one took a small rooster I had who unwisely slept on top of a fence each night. One morning he was gone, and only a single feather on the ground to mark his passing. I thought another type of predator would have left more of a mess.

We also have Barred Owls and Barn Owls, but my favorites are the little Screech Owls that frequent my yard. I want to build birdhouses for them to encourage them to stay and hunt rats & mice around here.

I'm sorry you lost your roo. Thanks for sharing the photos!

WOW! Gorgeous bird! I work for AC and over the winter we had one caught in an illegal leg hold trap. Must have been that way for days because the trap and its foot was caked with several pounds of ice

his foot had to be amputated and ultimately the owl was euthanized due to a bone infection. Very sad fate for such an amazing creature. I'm glad you released this beauty!

Very sorry about your boy, though

Sorry about your rooster, but I wouldn't be completely sure that it was initially the owl.
I wonder what happened to its eye?

Yes as much as I like my birds, the bird of prey would never be harm by me. Plus these owl will take, small coons, and any cats roaming. Which do harm to my birds.

Sure he would take a few birds free roaming also, but only one that free roam here is my pet goose. Unless I am here, and only during the day.

Plus he is a night hunter, he is a great looking bird, man is he huge.

Oh his eye , is ok. That is just black color. I did check him/her over a little before releasing him/her.

Didnt release it last night, when I found him, waited till today,so to check him out, also to take pics. Didnt think people would beleive this.

He/She is gorgeous. The only REAL owls I have seen is this tiny little burrowing owl at the Great Plains Nature Center and the one in our garage that my dad's friend accidently hit with his car and him and my dad rushed it to the vet and by the time they got there it was too late. It was before I was born, anyway they still thought it was gorgeous and got it stuffed and it hangs in our garage. I love the patterns on their feathers, and their big eyes.

Yes sure the owl, kill the rooster not the first time I have seen predators kills. Skin was rip off not, like a coon would do. Coons bite off the head. When I found the rooster he was fresh killed, still bleeding. Owl return to his kill.

No matter I release it, reset my traps for coons, possum, or skunks.
