What age did your roo start crowing?

He or she is 20 weeks old today. Here are pics taken this morning. What do you guys think? There are no other roos to prevent crowing. He seems to be dominant but a few hens boss him around. He could be a late bloomer. Beautiful bird though.

Your second picture definitely says "boy". Sometimes with another rooster they crow early in answer to or imitation of. Other times they remain silent. Perhaps to remain unnoticed?

Yes, I agree that he's a he after seeing the pictures posted today. I believe he'll crow when he's good and ready too. The Easter Eggers can sometimes be slow to mature. He looks a LOT like three EE pullets that were hatched out in late April that I bought this year. I thought one of them might be a cockerel until she laid a pretty blue egg!

Thanks Peeps. I'm hoping he doesn't crow much. I have heard some roos don't crow at all, really??? He is a pure Blue Ameraucana not a hatchery EE. I got the eggs from a breeder. I also have a blue hen. I have heard and read true Ameraucanas lay a blue egg only. I do have 2 EE hens too. :D

Yes, if they are pure Ameraucana they only lay blue eggs. A blue male with a blue female will give you blue, black and splash offspring.

Yes - I have four EE hens and two lay brown (almost pink) eggs and two lay blue eggs - one of them more olive than blue, and the other a pretty, powder blue color. Best of all, the eggs taste great!

Ok so Ralph better start acting like a roo soon so I can hatch some of those cute little blue or splash chicks Chooks mentioned.

Peeps - yes, fresh eggs are the best for sure and all the different shell colors too :D

Merry Christmas to ALL!

I sell my extra eggs, and the customers love that occasional blue/green egg in the mix along with the white eggs and the eggs of differing shades of brown!

My roo is 22 weeks old today and still hasn't crowed. Could it be because a couple of the girls are dominant over him and he is dominant over the rest. He doesn't assert himself to be the leader yet.

Also, I noticed the girls are starting to squat. They do it when I walk into the run but the roo doesn't try to mount them.

Both my Black Copper Maran cockerel and my Silkie cockerel started crowing at 6 weeks - just squeaky, screechy baby crows, but I think that counts. It made it obvious that they were roos.

My Silver Laced Wyandotte is 7 weeks and has not started crowing, but is posturing and getting into fights with the Silkie cockerel (who is now 10 weeks).

I suspect that some cockerels start crowing earlier that noted... it's just that you really have to be out there with them a lot to catch those first attempts at crowing. Maybe?

I have 2 ee roos that I have had since day olds. As far as I know I have never heard either of them crow.

but I also have a barred rock and slw roo that are pen bosses so maybe they just keep them subdued.

in total I have at least 9 roos but my EE's are the quiet ones.
