What age do OEGB cockerels get their full colours?

I think mandarins are your clementines. I always forget to check as there are quite a few things that have a different name in the US as compared to here. I love them too but I barely get one before DS has hoovered them all up. 🤣

90 degrees is a bit hotter than it gets here. I don't blame you for sleeping next to the air conditioner! A bit like our cat who hopefully sleeps next to the heater all day, whether it is on, or off. 🤣 We are all missing having a wood burner but once we finally sell the caravan we'll have a bit of spare cash to put one in.
I think we have mandarins here too but idk. I think maybe clementines are a type of mandarin or something? Haha but there’s definitely a lot of different names for things! Like I was reading something the other day from some British dude and he kept saying all these things that I had NO clue what he meant :lau 🤣🙈

And oh wow! Well at least it’s better than candy right!? 😂🤣

And this year has been very hot and dry so far!! Spring came extremely early and we don’t usually see such hot weather until later in summer like July or August. So it’s a bit weird. Especially since last year was very cold and wet so it’s very different.

It usually only gets maybe 80s and sometimes 90s here in the summer so definitely hot when it actually hits the 90s! 😂🤣

The humidity makes it worse though. So muggy and sticky. Sweat just standing outside sometimes 😂🤣

And your cat sounds hilarious and adorable! Haha Luna likes warm places too. :love

Wood stoves are awesome! :love we have fire places instead but those are cool too haha we rarely use the fire places anymore though

How are Libby and Franklin doing these days?

I thought I'd share an update of this little guy (because he's so cute). He's starting to get some beautiful sheen to his feathers. :love They are 9 weeks old in a couple of days.

And his gorgeous sister, Squeaks. I can't get over how tame they are. 🥰

They’re doing good!! They actually got a new puppy in February! 😂🤣

And they’ve had a lot of fosters too, they started fostering in the fall. Though they don’t have any right now.

I had meant to reply to this, but obviously got distracted. 🤪 I take my hat off to them fostering puppies, and taking on another. I'd like to get a terrier as pest control one day, but the thought of a puppy doesn't thrill me, I have to admit. But terriers are the sort that need to join the family as a puppy.

I'm kinda hoping our Muscovy ducklings (who are 8 weeks old - we have almost finished their huge new coop) will do a good job pest-wise. They are supposed to eat mice, which were an unbelievable pest over autumn (huge population explosion). We've had the odd rat too. Hopefully the Muscovies will scare them off. :fl

Oh wow they are gorgeous!!! :love I love the blue on the wings!! :love

And yes I think it’s amazing they foster especially given how busy they are with work, etc. and with two, now three, dogs. :th

Thankfully though most of the dogs they’ve fostered have actually been older, like around a year ish, rather than little puppies, but still a lot of work haha

I think their first one was like a year and a half? Then one I think was like 7 or 9 months and one 5 months. They’ve had 3 so far and just got their 4th the other day plus they also have watched a few just for like overnight since there is a vet right down the street from their house so they’ve had some heartworm dogs and one who’s adopters couldn’t pick him up till the next day.

I think it’s fantastic. Though I do think they’re a bit crazy for taking on 3 dogs :lau :th

I hope you can get your terrier one day!! :D maybe you’d get lucky and find a nice rescue terrier that worked for you? They aren’t all crazy :lau ;)

I hope the muscovies help!! I didn’t realize they ate mice and rats! Maybe I need some hahah

We have a huge chipmunk and squirrel problem

Those are still young dogs they are fostering.

Our dog is less than impressed at this whole farm lark. She's getting old and all she wants to do is sleep in her kennel or in the sun. She's tagged herself a few times on the electric fence and that's put her right off doing any farm stuff. 🤣

Our chickens spent the first 5 years of their lives in a covered run so they aren't that into free ranging either. They don't stray far from their coop and at the first sign of rain they all head back in. City Slickers!

Muscovy are supposed to be excellent little hunters. The only thing is we will have to keep their wings trimmed as they can fly. But we had a lot of grasshoppers and crickets and even some locusts around in late summer, and there are also a lot of Australian skinks here (like thousands) so hopefully they'll hoover them up. Those skinks are now called 'Plague skinks' here because they have taken over from our native ones.

Very true!! Though I think it helps that they have the other dogs to play with them and wear them out and teach them things lol they usually introduce them right away or after only like a night or few days 😂🤣 which normally probably wouldn’t work but for their pack it seems to haha the big fenced yard I think helps. And it’s amazing how fast these totally untrained pups learn to sit at the door and stuff like that from the resident dogs 😂🤣😂

Aww poor things!! Hahaha they’ll all get the hang of it eventually and I’m sure will come to love it soon enough!! :D even your old gal! :p

I had no idea they were such good foragers and hunters!!! Hahah and they don’t need water, right? Or at least not swimming water like most ducks? and oh no! Those skinks sound troublesome! 😂🤣

They just need water deep enough to wash their noses out, but they still make a lot of mess. I'm looking forward to them moving outside, that's for sure. They trash their indoor cage overnight.

There was a funny photo someone posted of her Muscovy drake hiding from the sprinkler (it was really hot and she thought he might like to cool off seeing as he won't swim in a pool). 😂 Ours seem to enjoy a dip in their little pool, and we do have the dam for them to swim in eventually. We've had them in the bath from a week old, but they grow so fast that got messy really fast.

Our dog doesn't like mud, and there's lots of that at the moment, so I think that puts her off going anywhere as well. 😄 Then we see the real farmers dogs doing work whatever the weather.

And OMG!!! So silly!!! Libby hates the rain! Thinks she’s gonna melt LOL she won’t go out (well, will eventually lol) and she gets in such a bad mood :lau
