At what age do roosters crow? We have a chick that is 10 weeks might be cockerel and it hasn't crowed yet. Is that normal? We were pretty sure it was a roo but chances are maybe it will turn out to be a pullet!
It comes in stages, well at least with mine, and he was defiantly older than 10 weeks, started off as one super short crow then the cadence started getting longer and longer, very fun to watch him grow. Ultimately gave him to a farm out hen to roo ratio was very low and we weren't ready for more. Good luck he'll get there
I have one that started at 5 weeks. They all are 14 weeks now, and it ranges from one sounding like it's being strangles, to one who is a pro. I have 7 and they're all different.
All depends on the individual.
Ive had some trying at 5 or 6 weeks and a silkie once that didnt until he was 9 or 10 months.
Post a pic and im sure someone can help you tell what it is.
Yes,sometimes.Some breeds are early maturers.
It also can depend on dominance. Some weaker, lower in the irder roosters wint crow infrotn of other dominant ones,or crow in the yard period.
It mainly depends on the breed. There are early maturing breeds and breeds that are slow to mature.
Delawares, Fayoumis, Plymouth Rocks, Catalanas, Anconas, Penedesencas may start around 12 weeks or so.
Jaerhons may crow at 5 weeks of age while Cochins, JGs, Yokohamas, Sultans, Langshans, LaFleche and Brahmas may wait till they're 20 weeks.
