What age quails can live together?

Currently I have 3 quails - all female. I have a 9 month and a 12month together. And right next to them another 12 month. (They are currently separated due to small fights but all play together all day. Don’t worry no one is left lonely ). I’m wanting to get another quail - male or female - to add to my little group. Can I put a 1 month old with a 12 month old female.
So my main questions are -
What gender should I get? And also what’s the youngest age that can live with a 12 month old - also be playing and mixing with the other two.

I would wait until the youngest is 6 weeks before putting it in with the rest. Since you only have 3 and want to add a 4th, I would add another hen.

Personality also matters, some are mean jerks no matter age or sex, just something to keep in mind. I have a runt and a wry neck bird and was splitting up and rearranging 4 week old birds from the same hatch and had one hen that was determined to take them out but does fine with birds her own size, pecking order!

Ah yes, that’s also something to think about, you’re right. I will try to get a well behaved quail thanks

If your not planning on incubating or selling fertile eggs then I would recommend to get another female quail as sometimes the males can get a bit overly randy with the females and stress them out a bit.

Yeah I don’t have plans to incubate/sell eggs, so I will get another female. Thank you
