WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??????

I can't keep using the heat lamp because the tripod I am using isn't tall enough. I can lower the heat lamp.

All you have to do is go with a higher wattage bulb----using a 60 watt---go to a 75 watt or a 100 watt and the temp below the light will get hotter---adjust the light height then a little to get the temp like you want it.

How many chicks did you start with??

I do not know why you lost so many---example I went and bought a 100 last Monday, Saturday morning I still have a 100 of those. I just brood them at the right temp on one end, feed and water in a regular chick waterer---no nipples that young for me. I have brooded over 400 chicks in the last 5 weeks and have only lost maybe 4 or 5 and that is usually in the first 2 days.

Quote: Agreed. Use a higher wattage bulb.

But, I still think you need to fix your water source. Chicks "scoop" water, so holes in the lid of your container, I don't think they are able to scoop water out - I still believe they are dying from dehydration.

The temp below is fine after I lowered the heat lamp. Why would I buy a 75 or 100 watt bulb?
If the bulb that you were using is not giving enough heat, you can change the wattage of the bulb to increase temperature.

Do you have a family member or friend that can help you with your brooder setup and chicks?

Here's a good, practical, common sense approach to raising baby chicks:
