I hatched a few chicks in Feb that are now 21weeks old. I gave my dad 7 pullets and 6 of his have already started laying, a couple of them have been laying 3 weeks now. I kept 11 of the pullets and only one of my pullets are laying!!

We are both feeding the same feed. The only big difference is I have a 7 month old rooster but he is wonderful with his girls and they love him. They follow him around, he protects them, keeps the peace, and also likes to find food for them.

Am I doing something wrong?

I don't think you are. I guess they will lay when they are ready! Im waiting on my 18 week to lay!! So anxious!!

My coworkers and myself all bought chicks, of the same breed, at the same time. The one lady has been getting eggs for 3 weeks now. The chcikens are now 17 weeks. I just started getting them. My other coworker, has gotten none yet. I am thinking it might be envororment, temps, and just when they are comfotable they will !! Have no experience, but it is weird for all of us to have it happen differently when they all came out of the same stock tank, the same week !!

Good luck !! It is exciting when it happens.....

But were they the same age? 17 weeks is young to start laying let alone 14 weeks. Since feed stores get chicks in during chicks days usually several times a week, it is possible to buy pullets that are 2-4 weeks old at the same time they are selling day old chicks (unsold chicks from previous weeks). My guess is that your co-worker whose pullets started laying 3 weeks ago did not start with day old chicks.

Oh there is no doubt, my dad is treating his girls like queens!!! He works for the school district so he is off work for the summer break so he is spending about 4 to 6hrs a day sitting out there with them. I really do believe his girls think he is their rooster!!!
