because otherwise they would spend longer in the store, and if YOU buy him/her at least you know they're going to someone good who will love them and take care of them rather than someone else who might not

But that money goes back to the breeder who decides to breed again, thus replacing said animal.

The problem comes in with the fact that the breeder will end up will animals that weren't sold or, when they go out of business and have extra animals, a LOT of homeless animals. Either these animals need to be sheltered or killed.

You aren't really "saving" an animal, because that animal didn't exist until the breeder (who you paid money to) decided to breed animals. However, a shelter animal was in danger of having to be killed when you buy it. While you may call buying an animal saving it, you can't really compare it to shelters.

But it's your money, so you can make the final decision.
