What are any advantages of this bitter cold we're getting?

Hmmm, that's a toughie...as I thaw out my hands (been out doing chicken chores) so I can type...
1. Everything's frozen solid so there's much less chance of my tracking in "little treasures" on our floor.

2. The chickens are so occupied with staying warm, they no longer bother being aggressive towards the younger flock.

I think it finially for the first time in years feels like the holidays are comming. Its just not winter with temps off and on in the 40-50s like last couple years. Other thing is it kills a good portion of bugs, cold winter = less bugs in the spring and summer.

There are NO ADVANTAGES!!! i hate winter and the older I get the more I mind it. I can't wait till Bill retires (at least partially) so we can spend the worst of the winter some place warmer!
We'll go to Fl. for 2 weeks in jan. but then I jusrt hate coming back to this bitter cold.
Do we have a whiney smile??? I guess this is close:barnie

Lots of virus's and germs are killed by freezing temperatures. If you've been having sick birds, it can help.

I can't wait until it freezes because the ducks have made an ugly mess out there and my boots won't squish into the muck pretty soon.

ChickaD, you have my sympathy, but down here, I'd LOVE a good hard long freeze! Get rid of some of the 'skeeters, ticks, fleas, etc. Not to mention maybe keeping some of the crazier drivers off the streets

C'mon down, it's not warm, but it's not frozen!

Snow flurries and cold, cold sunshiney day here. But I love it! Let's get outside and play with the dog, instead of hiding from the cold. Then its lovely. At least til March . . .
