What are early signs of a roster

Well diffrent breeds have diffrent things you can tell by but a sign with 3 weeks and older would be red comb and red waddles growing in before the hens.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2 the first sign is usually larger red comb and wattles in the boys, thick legs, bigger body, and eventually the male feathering.. usually you should have a pretty good idea by eight weeks or so, some earlier some later. There is a nice article in the Learning Center that may help you figure them out sooner since you can see them at home www.backyardchickens.com/a/is-my-chicken-a-pullet-hen-or-a-cockerel-cock You can also post pictures in the What Breed Or Gender Is This forum for help with figuring them out https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this
You might also like to check out the BYC Learning Center, lots of good articles on all aspects of chicken keeping. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Welcome to BYC!

Big fat legs! This is one of the first signs of a roo. Legs like tree trunks, thicker than the pullets. So compare legs as you can usually see big legs early on before combs or wattles start to grow.

Enjoy your new chicks and welcome to our flock!
