I got these from Ideal last week along with the other chicks that I ordered. i am just wondering if anyone knows what they are and if by chance i got a hen or two out of it.

if anyone knows what these are or how to sex them please let me know!

They look like barred rocks maybe. Do they have yellow on the bottom of their feet? I don't know how to sex them by the head spots, but know that you can. Maybe someone with barred's will chime in to confirm.

They look like my BR packing peanuts, but they could be black sex-links.

I wouldn't get my hopes up that the one chick is a pullet. I thought I might have one, too, judging by head spot, but he's 10 weeks old now and he's definitely a boy. I'll sure keep my fingers crossed for you!

How many did you get? I got 15, but one died in the mail, poor little thing. They accompanied an order of 10 bantam babies.

Yes they have yellow on the bottoms of their feet, all of them do, i ended up with 11 peanuts, 1 died in the mail too. How long will it take before i will know if any of these are pullets?

By the time they're feathered out pretty well, maybe 4 weeks, you should be able to tell if one is much darker than the others. If they're black sex-links, not BR's, they're all boys...

Now that mine are 10 weeks old, I'm seeing no reddish tone in any of their feathers, and I'm pretty sure they're BR's, not sex-links. All of mine are definitely boys. Hope your luck is better than mine!

We'll butcher them next month. Then I'll can them and set them on the shelf for use in casseroles. I've had to work very hard not to get too attached to them, darn cute little things. I've instructed the kids to pay them no attention too, cuz they're as soft-hearted as I am, and we all need to be able to eat them...

What will you do with yours?

I just googled Mountain Home. My SIL is from Rupert, and my niece just moved to Rexburg last week. She's freezing to death so far, poor girlie! I'm glad I'm in the desert...

we used to be stationed at mountain home afb! I feel sorry for any one who has to live there against thier will.. (you may like it but it grows old fairly fast if your from a bigger city.) we lived on base and hated it.... may have liekd it better if we had our own place!
