What are some of your favorite song artists?

If it makes you feel better, I have watched "The Wall" while on acid. It was an experience I still struggle to describe to this day, and it's been more than 20 years.
I like a lot of Pink Floyd but I'm older than most here so I didn't get into The Wall or later stuff. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as earlier. I wasn't particularly fond of another brick in the wall. 'Time' was the first one I heard after I went in the army in Germany. I especially liked Comfortably Numb, Great Gig in the Sky, Us and Them, Shine on You Crazy Diamond and my all time favorite of theirs. Wish You Were Here.

My wife loves Judy Garland.
I can listen to anything but Rap and Ska. I don't even mind Banjo but it isn't my go to thing.
Probably in order:
Classic rock (mid 60s to early 80s)
Blues, especially mid 1900s but I appreciate it all.
Reggae (sans ska) especially roots reggae, starting with Bob, Tosh etc..
A stand alone acapella group - Pentatonix.
New Age Classical
Jazz
Classical
Ohh, army eh.. what was your MOS? My dad did his 20..thank you for serving👍👍

The thread is for artists we LIKE. :p

TBH I never really got into PF but def have no issues putting it on in the background for "listening to" music while I work
I think Pink Floyd is an... acquired taste, for lack of a better term? I was pretty ambivalent towards most of their songs, but after listening to them a few more times I've come to appreciate their style. Still have yet to watch The Wall, unfortunately.

I'm open to a lot of different genres, but overall prefer rock in all its various forms - alt/ folk/ indie/hard rock, symphonic / heavy metal, and more recently post-punk. I grew up listening to artists from the '60s all the way through to mid-2000s, both secular and Christian. The Stones, Aerosmith, Green Day, Crosby / Stills / Nash & Young, Bombay Bicycle Club, Low Roar, Johnny Cash, Demon Hunter, Phil Wickham, Third Day... just to name a few. I also listened to a lot of popular pop and country stations, but no longer do as most songs aren't my taste anymore.

If I had to name five of my favorite bands, it would be Switchfoot, Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, U2, and Interpol. Not by any means an exhaustive list, but a definitive one. U2 in particular was responsible for my interest in learning music; I heard Achtung Baby during a long road trip and that was it. Fourteen year-old me was sold. Never heard guitars sound like that.

As far as my favorite vocalists go, that varies - but Sammy Hagar, Robert Plant, Axl Rose, Jon Foreman, and Florence Welch come to mind. I also like Anthony Kiedis for the sheer fact that I can hit the same notes, haha. Makes for a good karaoke night!

ETA: Also forgot about Janis Joplin, Geddy Lee, Jim Morrison,Steven Tyler and Joan Jett. Shame on me. :(

Kinda funny you mention U2. War and The Joshua Tree are still some of my favorite albums, and while War has not aged as well, TJT is hands-down one of the greatest albums ever end-to-end. Your "Achtung, Baby" moment was my first listen to Metallica's "Master of Puppets" album. Life-changing from a musical perspective. I've had several of those over the years as I explored new music, but even now, the opening to "Battery" still gives me goosebumps.

My favorite vocalists vary a bit too, but tends to be people who sing in my range (or used to) as well. Geoff Tate Rob Halford, and Bruce Dickenson still have that range, but I don't. :p I can still keep up with Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Howard Jones, guys in that range. Amy Lee is probably one of the most overlooked vocalists out there, and Lizzy Hale is right behind her. There's other too, like Maria Franz of Heilung, but they are pretty niche and most people would never have heard of them.
