Yes the high % white spalding dont do well in northern winters. But its the spalding not the color white.
Kev I try telling people ,white is not a color ,but the absent of color. Like a white from peach pieds is still peach, but you just cant see the color peach. Or like most say the white mask the color.
Reason for good records, as you know white X dark pied= all pieds
white peach X peach dark pied = all peach pieds
now if white blue(from blue pied) male X peach dark pied hens = All blue looking pieds, the males would be split peach.
Thats the reason all my whites , are banded so I know their true color.....
Also as I am sure you know, but others may not. white will also mask patterns like blackshoulders.
