A week ago I lost the most beautiful partridge silkie DO-DO, to an evil preditor we have yet to get! He was a Very sweet boy-he was just starting to mate with my girls he was penned with. I got my very first egg tonight from them-Not sure which of the 3 girls layed it-Might not even be from the girl he was mating with-What are the chances that this little egg -the size of a silkie egg-will be fertile? I so want to have a baby from him-he was mating with a dark brahma ( he could have been mating with a mille fluer or light brahma too?) Those are the only girls in there. I had not seperated them yet. Should I incubate it or would I be totally wasting my time and hopes? Im a big girl I can take the truth if it's bad :-(

My real concern would be the size of the egg? It's little, like a silkies egg, would it result in a sick chick-deformed-etc??? The dark brahmas are not quite full grown and will be laying larger eggs than this eventually-I hope! They are only 16-17 weeks old-I hope she gets bigger?

Collect eggs for the rest of the week, and set the group, some may not make it, some may not be fertile. But you won't know unless you set them (if you want to be sure crack that first egg, check for the spot, and incubate the rest).

I thought about that too-cracking that egg-but then I thought my lav silkie I busted mating with her today too-what if it is the only egg laid that was his? DO-DO's egg- Did I just make sense? I would hate that knowing what if? I will save the egg until I get a few more in the next day or so-now that she was mated by both the chances are slim to none they are DO-DO's right? whos sperm would win?

Well, you can always try incubation with knowing there's a chance it won't work, but only way to know is to try.

I agree. You should just incubate them all and give it a try. Maybe one of the eggs will hatch and look like your beloved roo!

I am going to hope and pray with some chicken prayers tonight-I have some eggs that should arrive in the mail tomorrow and will probably set it with them-luckily there's only 8-10 coming. Bleached the bator out today. Ill post the updates on this site to let you know-thanks for the enthusiasm and help!

Here was my boy! big and very fluffy-not a very good photo but he was very ellusive!
