Love it!!!! Sounds like the best of all worlds!I took many pictures of mine, weighed them, cracked them very carefully, ate them, and kept the shells.

LOL - a "fart egg" -BahhhhahahahhaI got a fart egg the other day. I am not sure if it is a first egg from one of my almost ready pullets or just a tiny egg from the only layer I have. I cracked it open - and it was a perfect tiny egg.
Will be adding vitamins to the diet. Nothing this morning, day 4, so farYour hens might benefit from some supplemented calcium+VitD+VitK to overcome the first difficulties with egg laying.
My one that is laying definitely has a distinct "squat" when I approach. Its pretty obvious, but not having chickens before, I would not have understood it until I finally saw it in my own henThey squat when you get near them and raise their little butts up in the air.
How long do you have to wait until it gets more normal? Is there a normal? LOL, i have no idea. What I naively thought, when I first purchased them, was that at some point i would have perfectly formed eggs almost everyday (and maybe a slow down during colder months). Is this just a dream, or will I someday have a more regular eggs than anomaliesWith new layers, honestly anything goes. You can get all sorts of weird and bizarre eggs for a while until they get all the kinks worked out. Extra large, extra small, soft, wrinkly, oval, pointy, thin shell, no shell... you name it, they might possibly lay it.![]()
WOW!!! I'm jealous. Those eggs are beautiful.......I ate the second egg laid by my hen and it was marvelous. WAY better than store bought. I was shocked. My first girl laid her egg at 15 weeks. First egg very tiny. I do give them herbs, flowers, garden veggies etc. They eat very healthy. Within days 5 followed suit out of 13. My black chicken lays a pinky flesh color egg. So I always know when she lays. My first layers eggs are getting much larger. I do eat and bake with the eggs. Her eggs I see are all double yolks. Kinda weird. I wasnt sure how fresh brown eggs would taste, but much better than store eggs. Nice orangy yolks with no runny whites. Just love it!!!
I have not had any malformed eggs at all. Perfect little layers they are. Thought I would show them off.

Here's the first one I got from my youngest ISA Brown.
