The moral of the story: Just remember, no matter how bad your day is going so far, at least you're not covered in half decomposed rotting animal innards. Or at least you dont have to scrub them off your car.

I've been over the breed standard for Appaloosa's at least fifty times, and NOWHERE can I find the notation fo that "bone-jarring trot." That really puzzles me, because they ALL seem to have it! On top of the signature trot, my Billy had razor-sharp withers. I didn't bareback him too often, 'cause his trot could seriously hurt! Joey's a bit better, mainly because he tends a bit towards "pudgy," but his trot definitely makes you want to nudge him up to a canter/lope ... his is a dream! My appy was the same. VERY cinchy. I always had to keep one elbow pointed at him, so if he tried to bite he caught an elbow to the face instead of getting me. Other than that he was such a good boy. He was a blanket appy with spots on his butt and blonde mane and tail. He had that bouncy, bone jarring trot too. He would give me everything in a race though. I miss that boy! His name was JD, short for jack Daniel's of course!
I've noticed that too! I always just assumed it was their attitude. Like, a little kid stomping his feet, "trotting is dumb why are we doing this"I've been over the breed standard for Appaloosa's at least fifty times, and NOWHERE can I find the notation fo that "bone-jarring trot." Yes, this was my reaction exactly.
Billy thought it was great fun to grab soda or beer cans (sometimes right out of your hands) and crunch them in his teeth. As they sprayed all over creation, he'd shake his head up and down in that wild "horse laugh" way they have ... getting everyone and everything in the vicinity soaked. Then he'd prance himself away, still tossing his head and, I swear, singing "Nyahh, Nyahh," at us all. He knew he'd gotten us and was quite pleased with himself over it!I've noticed that too! JD had a VERY round barrel and not much of a withers. I rode him everywhere bareback. He was my buddy. He had a pasture mate, a paint named firecracker. If you weren't paying attention, she would steal your beer, throw her head up and drain it.No joke. That horse was a wild mess.

I feel ya there for sure. Theres always gonna be those few animals that stay with you long after they're gone.Billy thought it was great fun to grab soda or beer cans (sometimes right out of your hands) and crunch them in his teeth. Man ... all this Memory Lane stuff is making me miss my Old Man all over again. He's been gone forever, it seems, but that's also how long he'll have my heart ... forever!
Oh Man Again ... You sound like a kindred spirit! My "heart dog" is/was a mostly Border Collie mix named Tag. I had to put him down a year ago and his ashes are on my dresser. Is it weird to admit that I still talk to him? I think it is, kinda, but I can't help it. In his 16 years on this earth, all but six months of which were spent with me, we shared an awful lot of life-altering ups and downs. I will always have a Border Collie shaped hole in my heart, right next to the Shih Tzu and the Peekapoo shaped ones ... and right beside a pair of kitty-shaped ones, too - including Paco, the beautiful boy in my avatar. Then there's that 16+ hand lump of horseflesh. It's a good thing love makes the heart grow bigger, instead of cramped, 'cause I plan on being around a lot longer ... and I'll NEVER be done loving my critters!I feel ya there for sure. I just lost my dog I had for 15 years. Had to put her down back in March. She got dementia and would get herself stuck in corners and make herself sick cuz she couldn't figure out how to get out. I finally made the decision when she went to go down the stairs like they weren't even there. It was so heartbreaking I just took her ashes out to look at the box last month.![]()
That plexiglass wasn't always there! They put that up in the late 80s I think...I certainly hope your aim is worse than the monkeys. They're deadly with that stuff! Last time I went to the Primate House at the DC zoo, I nearly caught a splat right in the face. Thank heavens for Plexiglas!
Too bad we dont live closer! I'd totally meet up for some coffee and b.s.!! The horse shaped hole in my heart encompasses many, many horses. I've got 2 dogs that hold a special place, one car, and 3 chickens. One hamster and one rat too I guess. Kaycee and mr. Rat. Lol.Oh Man Again ... You sound like a kindred spirit! And on that note, I'm turning in for the night. Despite the sad note of remembering those gone, I have REALLY enjoyed this conversation! It's been heartwarming to relive some of the really memorable times we shared. Smiles to you all ... and sweet dreams!
