What are the red "blood spots" on egg yolks?

Red spots or brown spots does not mean the egg is rotten or the hen is sick it simply means a mishap in development of yolk they are pefectly fine to eat. Do not cull the hen if the spots bother you cull the egg. I do not have a rooster so I know my eggs are not fertile but occasion my girls will lay an egg with a brown spot or blood. I know its ok to eat but I still usually cull the egg with blood not the one with the little brown spot. Thats just me. It usually means the eggs are fresh the blood will disappear in about two weeks or less in the refrigerator. You know this means the eggs in your store are already old when you get them.. LOL but the ones from your hens are fresh. Hope this helps
