what are the temperments of leghorns?

I have a 14 week old white leghorn pullet. She has been handled frequently since she was a day old chick. She is now very curious; she is the first one to come out to see me and see if I have any treats. She leads the other chickens into the house if I leave the back door open. She follows me around the garden and talks to me. I agree with HBuehler- they usually don't like to be picked up, but if you manage to catch one they won't fight to be put down.

My 11 week old brown leghorn doesn't seem to be interested in me at all- goes running for cover even if I do bring out treats. She's fast, too, like the road runner. The only way I can get a hold of her is to corner her in the yard and then pounce. She did not receive as much handling as the older leghorn.

So far, I think that they're great birds (even though they're hatchery stock) and I think that the eggs they'll produce for me makes them great for my small flock, despite their flighty temperment.

there she is. that was just before she started laying.

I cannot speak on Leghorns, but I can on my buttercup. She's flighty as all get out. And she was handled every day as a chick. She'll eat out of my hand, but if you reach for her, she'll dart out of range. (just beyond your fingertips) And good luck trying to catch her. But she is a fantastic forager.

We used to raise leghorns and they are very flighty especially when they are with all other leghorns. Now we only have one leghorn and she is in with mixed group of pullets. We have barred rocks, RIR, golden comet, brahmas and sussex girls with her. She acts just like them. Very sweet and friendly and getting more so all the time. She loves dh and if he sits down out in the yard, she is up on his lap cheeping and chirping..telling on all the other girls lol.

i had three white leghorns two hens and a rooster. I handled them daily and they were terrified of me. Before i had my run built for them when i would let them free range i would chase them for an hour trying to get them back in the coop. Then getting them out of the coop was a deal they would run into the walls and the rooster would spur me and getting them out of the run and into the coop was the same deal. I like leghorns but if you want a bird that likes to be handled and you want to carry it around and stuff dont get leghorns.
