What are these ducks doing?

Every time I drain my pool, the ducks run to the dumped water and push their bills all in the water and wet soil.

What are they doing exactly? Eating or what?

Diggin for bugs. Mine do the same thing - we purposely let it overflow every afternoon. They LOVE it.

Oh yeah... wet soil is EASY to get their bills in to start digging for 'stuff' you know... worms and grubs and the crawly things they like to eat.

When it rains, my daughter and I will sit at the back window and just watch the ducks waddle through the yard digging everywhere with their beaks. Its so cute, until I go out walking through the yard and see they've pretty much destroyed all the grass!

My girls like to tip over their water bowls just to play in the muddy water. I have little duck mud holes everywhere.
