Folks in pox-prone areas as yours and other deep south states, may need to vaccinate their birds. But it takes some time for the vaccine to become effective. Once they get it though, they should be immune to the same strain in the future. Pox is so much worse in hot or humid areas. The fallen dried scabs can remain contagious, and inhaling the powder can infect other chickens.
