what are y'all saving from the wild to deal with coming crisis?

I would lean toward picking a breed that is an egg producer, meat protein will be a waste of feed. The breeds like leghorn also are more flighty and will survive (if possible).

Yeah, unfortunately for me I'm running up against what I can do now vs. what would be ideal; I own a home by a huge lake, but poultry is banned. Quail "don't count". Plus, bears. The quail are easier to protect than chickens.

My quail are egg laying bred ones for the most part, though, since I don't have the big meat maker/jumbo lines. In an emergency I would eat all but two males and ten hens and have an indefinite supply of eggs, with a couple extra birds to cull every year as I bred replacements.

The high protein % required to keep them healthy is annoying, but I know some ant hills I can tractor them over if push comes to shove.

There's good reasons we aim to reach true homesteading levels here, although I'd argue that this no longer holds a singular definition.

Just had a meeting with a solar company. Wanted to know what the current options were. We're not wealthy enough to just buy a system, not even a panel at a time.
Ran through all the options and some would indeed budget out for us, eventually leading to us owning the system itself. Can't say it's all a great deal or not...
But what actually pulled the rug out from the "go solar" plan?
1. These companies are only allowed to contract with the current electrical supplier. You can't "simply go off grid" using the company.
2. Our power company will not agree to work with the solar company's battery back up. This means, we still have no guarantee of electrical supply even when generating our own electricity, because we're forced through the loan to stay on grid and thus, also not allowed to use the battery system from solar company.
3. Gentleman doing my power assessment was very honest, told me that even if that back up battery was approved, it doesn't hold enough to power my well pump. REALLY?! Make my own power, pay TWO companies to do so, and my animals have dehydrate because the grid went down?!


Hoping I win the lottery more than ever now. So very annoyed that everything is designed to control, suppress, or manipulate us in some fashion.
The lottery too, of course, but the sudden funds could help along our self sufficiency efforts around here.

Another factor that makes microgreens ideal for situations where you might want to conceal your crops is that although I'm growing mine directly in the ground in full sun, microgreens are usually grown in complete darkness. They are only exposed to light the day before harvest, to green them up. This results in more tender stems and taller plants.

Here are peas that i grew in the dark on paper towels, in a large restaurant tray.
The cheapest place to find whole dried peas is an ethnic grocery store.

Protein to fiber ratios for Comfrey is far ahead of all the other fodders with 2.27-1 compared with 0.88-1 for the best pasture grass.

It is the sad truth of what Americans now call "freedom" huh?

I do not know what it will take for the masses to realize that the government has been utilizing psychology to manipulate the public for decades and have been perfecting it. To the point that they have provided the algorithms social medias utilized, before upgrading, in their programming.

There was a federal law that made it illegal for any US government representative, elected official, government department or governments entities to provide the American public with propaganda, false narratives. A little less than a decade ago that law was repealed and no one demands its reinstatement, the media says nothing and the government now acts like the CIA and spews whatever it wants, keeping spatterings of truth to cause doubt about all their other garbage.
Now why would the government make allowing themselves to blatantly lie to us about anything they want be legal? LOL
If you look through all the federal laws on the books you would find that you could be imprisoned at their whim. I have lived my life without arrest or ticket, but was awestruck at all the contrived crap they have assured their power of detention with. NDAA being the biggest, since it allows for indefinite detention without representation with no defined determinate. But don't worry they say they will only use it on terrorist. Question is who are classified as potential terrorist and who determines who gets on that list? I think a few news stations and political candidates have found themselves "accidentally" placed on that watch list.

Google was just busted completely manipulating algorithms thanks to an employee's undercover video. This is after Google founders blatantly lied about this to Congress.
But not a peep about this bombshell on ANY mainstream media, FoxNews included.

Both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have been calling for Google to be broken up but guess who is the number one donor to both of them. Yup, Google.
To quote George Carlin; "It's a big club. And you ain't in it."
