O I have more than enough to get full ss... I was looking at the site pretty regularly till life got in the way. I can apply early too because I was born in 55.

In one more year wether or not I apply for social security I have to apply for Medicare.... dont know how I will pay for that unless Medical takes up the payments.

I still have to talk to my insurance provider.... and my health clinic.

A generator has been #1 on my wish list for a long time.

When I finally get one I'll be careful to only use it for the refrigerator/freezers & the fish tank pump. Being the only house with lights on in a city encased in darkness would be like a beacon that you could see for miles. I don't need any uninvited guests during an emergency.

If you can get diesel.... good at cold starts even after months of just sitting around. Oh and no matter what kind of generator you get the sound will draw people..... LOL

Part A is free, Part B is not. Unless you are employed and covered by your employer you have to buy-in or face penalties if you buy in late. I’m covered by VA Medical and I still have to pay for Medicare part B. I only use it for my annual hi- dose flu shot.

YOu can get Red Dye diesel for your generator which as no road tax added to it.

Dont let em catch you putting it in your diesel truck though.... Big fine... if you get caaught...

My Dodge Cummins one ton will be so sad..... Still gets 20 mpg after running

+300k.... Happily pulling a horse trailer or loaad of hay....

I applied early for SS because it made financial sense for our situation. When Medicare kicked in this year ,my monthly check decreased by about fifty dollars.

I am fortunate to be able to afford it, but that is about a quarter or so of what I was getting. I agree that you should look into your benefit now if you don’t know it exactly. I don’t know how people should live on that or how we should all have saved up a million dollars in addition.

Seriously. Yes it is optional sort of. If you don’t sign up when you’re eligible and you decide to sign up a year or two later you pay a hefty penalty. Also there are increased premium costs for higher income groups. You should go to their website and get the facts before making a decision based on what you heard someone say.

We have a well, as well ( catch that?) But we also have a small, dedicated generator for it in the event of a long power outage, which isn’t that rare. We also have a generator dedicated to freezers as well. However, in the event of a gasoline shortage I’d be SOL.

My husband talks about getting a generator but I don't like the thought of storing gas and all the noise. When Isabel went through our area we lost power for ten days. We collected water from the downspouts to flush and had water on hand to drink. I now store drinking water and have a couple Berkey water filters to filter rain water if need be. I have also stocked basic food to cook with. We installed a wood stove to heat with. I have chickens and a garden and fruit and nut trees and berries. The kind of crisis I plan for is one that won't be "fixed" ever. I hope it never happens but if it does we will at least have a head start.
