My husband talks about getting a generator but I don't like the thought of storing gas and all the noise. When Isabel went through our area we lost power for ten days. We collected water from the downspouts to flush and had water on hand to drink. I now store drinking water and have a couple Berkey water filters to filter rain water if need be. I have also stocked basic food to cook with. We installed a wood stove to heat with. I have chickens and a garden and fruit and nut trees and berries. The kind of crisis I plan for is one that won't be "fixed" ever. I hope it never happens but if it does we will at least have a head start.

That’s OK. Not everyone is comfortable with a generator. Although I have 2 fireplaces, I heat primarily with a pellet stove and that requires electricity. The fireplaces don’t provide a lot of heat anyway, bit they’re pretty.

Did you read the whole article. When the volcanoes on which they are erupt the glaciers melt creating problems. When the volcanic material cools down, then they re-freeze. And who or what is electro verse? I tried googling it and got nothing.

I've read it in numerous places, but this is the original source, I think. When they say Antarctica is losing ice they mean West Antarctica. East Antarctica is gaining more ice, so overall the continent is gaining ice. btw, what they never mention is that the West Antarctic ice sheet overlies the largest system of volcanoes in the world, and WA has higher geothermal heat fluxes than EA.
