ozark hen - Thank you so much for your post on the Biscotti. It does help so much to see pictures to reassure that you are on the right track.

Makes me want to leave work right now and go home and bake! Unfortunately I won't be home this weekend so will have to see if I can squeeze a batch in tonight or tomorrow night. I'm traveling to the Napa Valley to show my old boss' wife how to do canning - should be fun but wish I was home to bake all these great recipes.

I made sugar cookies last night and topped some differently. Some had chocolate sprinkles, some had chocolate/peanut sprinkles, some had chocolate coconut, and the rest had some Halloween sprinkles. Yum.

OZARK HEN: That biscotti is awesome! Have you ever made an almond biscotti? I want to make that and dip in dark chocolate. Would I use ground almonds, silvers or almond extract? And maybe add some shaved chocolate into the batter too? Would that work?

Thanks!

You bet!! Amaretto is my very favorite. I have even used Amaretto as the flavoring. LOL I usually use sliced/chopped almonds AND almond flavoring. Almond flavoring and Black Walnut flavorings are the most used here ...outside of my homemade Vanilla flavoring. When I make a strawberry pie I use a dash of Amaretto...........OMG to die for!! Cheesecakes?? Almond flavoring!! I love only New York Style, don't care for the ones with the fruit toppings.
And yes, those almond flavored biscotti are the ones I dip in melted chocolate. Chocolate chips and slivered chocolate tend to melt in the cookies..I mean when the cookie is baked a total of 55 min.?? You can try them though if you like them. I just don't, my own personal taste.
Oh, adding the shaved chocolate would make you some

I have tried different ways of making bread. Always ended up as chicken treats. I tried this method and to my surprise it works everytime and it is great. I didn't use the hot oven and hot dutch oven. I just put it in preheated oven and cold pan at 450 for the same times. I made cheese bread, oh my its good. Added 1 cup of Mexican cheese from Aldis.

You guys are killing me with all these wonderful recipes!!!

I baked pumpernickle bread and apple pie this weekend. I think I'll go for pumpkin bread and french bread this weekend. Not sure, though - depends on what strikes my fancy once Saturday rolls around. Maybe a Shenandoah Valley Apple Cake? Hmmmm. . .

Just looked up the Amish bread and to tell you the truth, I just added two tablespoons of sugar as I didn't want a sweet bread. so very much like Gumpsbread..the no fail bread. LOL Mine is on it's first rising. I have never made a whole wheat bread so I need some help here. do I add half white flour and half wheat flour? What if I want to add oatmeal?
