What are you baking now?

KimN_C Thanks for the link to the other bread site. Looks like it too might become a favorite of mine. My only problem now is that I need to acquire more Dutch Ovens. I want to make more than one loaf at a time and either have to stage them one right after another or add more cool stuff to my collection! I vote for adding stuff!!! Like they say "the one with the most stuff wins"

Sandee - Do you have a crockpot with with removal insert? They're perfect for artisan breads. I have 3 that I've used many times - never a problem, bread always perfect. I use metal or glass lids to cover them in the oven (if the recipe calls for a cover).

Thanks a million for the tip. I do and will try using my Crock Pot liner. There is a local flee market here that I was just told has a booth that sells antique cookware and usually has cast iron. So we are going to check them out tomorrow.

That site that you linked me to has a recipe for Pesto bread that I'm going to try this weekend. I have Basil coming out my ears right now and we love Pesto so will give it a try. Also going to try a Jalapeno/Cheese Dutch oven bread. Just taking the regular white dough recipe and adding the Jalapenos (pickled) and cheese. We'll see what we get.

I'm having such a great time with this bread baking!! I LOVE to cook, its so relaxing and I can escape the world just like when I do my art. Now I just need to win the Lotto so I can stay home and cook/bake and do art all the time.

The other joy for me is sharing of all our recipes and stories here - so much fun talking to others who love cooking/baking as much as I do.

Have a great weekend everyone

I made plain ole box brownies last night because they're quick and yummy. BUT, I used my Perfect Brownie Pan that my mom gave me as an Easter present or something I believe...first time I've used it. It works pretty good too, except I had to bake probably 15 minutes longer than I normally would. I'm not sure if that's the pan or my oven being stupid. It's nice to have perfectly clean lines and none of that chopped up brownie look.

Here's a link if you'd link to know what I'm talking about. If you do a search for perfect brownie pan, do not click on perfectbrownie.com...my computer hit on a virus when I clicked the link.

You're welcome. There are sooooooo many recipes I want to try on that site! Unfortunately...or I should say fortunately....we have customers who come to buy their standard loaves every week at market. So making those loaves takes up a lot of my baking time. I AM home all day - but between online orders, chickens, pigs, cattle, quail, market gardens, canning and housekeeping - well, I can't get enough baking time in either! *sigh*

How did you make out at the flee market? Any good finds?

KimN_C and everyone else - Made the Pesto Bread from the site you linked me to and WOW it was great! It worked out perfectly since as I mentioned we have too much basil in the garden right now and need to use it up. I sampled it yesterday at our little farmer's market and although people really liked it no one bought the other loaf that I had for sale. I will be looking at the site for some other breads to try for sure. Also, made a Peanut Butter and Jelly bread from my new found bread book and only rated it a "7" didn't really get a PB & J flavor from it. The top got too dark and was not able to take to the market but OK for us to eat.

Saturday we were all set to go to the flee market but we didn't make it there in time. It's one of those markets that can be kind of seedy so we have not been there before and didn't realize that it closed at noon. So will have to try again this weekend.

I know what you mean about kitchen gadgets. My Aunt came for a visit last weekend and she went on and on about how I had a kitchen tool for everything. But you have to have the right tool don't you!! LOL.

Anyway, need to slow down a bit on bread making and get some other things done in the kitchen.

Getting ready to make some zucchini bread. My lovely friend, Stacey, gave me a beautiful (64oz jar) of local honey. So I was happy when I found a zucchini bread recipe that used honey. And it's delicious bread!

And just had to say that I'm soooo excited. Michigan just passed a law making it legal to sell baked goods, jams, etc. without having to have a separate licensed kitchen within the home. Yay!!! I've been dreaming of doing this for years! A licensed kitchen is great, but very expensive to get going. I will have to affix a label that says that the premises have not been inspected by the state, though.

I would love to have that recipe.

I used to have a zucchini/carrot/pineapple bread recipe that I substituted honey and whole wheat flour in but I've lost it and can't find it anywhere! That recipe started fom a zucchini bread recipe. I tried again a couple of months ago with a new base recipe but the recipe was oily and I wasn't happy with the results. I was just going to replace the oil with butter and reduce it a little but it wasn't that great a flavor to start with so I gave up on that one.

That is really exciting news. I wish California could see their way to a law like that. We have so many restrictions - we have taken to "Boot Leggin" our jams and jellies. Shhhhh - I won't tell if you don't. In California we have to have a certified kitchen all stainless sinks (3 of them), high temp dishwasher, commerial stove/ovens and stainless counters so not going to happen in our house, we wouldn't live long enough to re-coop the cost.
