What are you baking now?

I will let you know how it is after being frozen Kim. I will probably pull it out tomorrow. You are very welcome!

Well, my husband who has been working out of town for the past 3 months has become quite the baker of bread. We got on to this Dutch oven thing before he left and he makes probably 2 to 3 loaves a week now. He even started his own sourdough starter and reported last night that he finally got a good loaf from it. He has been eating most of it but also giving some to co-workers. He admitted last night that he has gained some weight! He gets to come home in 13 more days and I can't wait to start making bread together.

I have been dreaming about having an outside brick oven so may be with him enjoying bread making so much - we'll actually get one made. We have the plans just need to do it.

Oh an outside brick oven is one of my dreams too. Maybe when we move to Ecuador...

If you are ever interested in the plans let me know and I boot leg you a copy

I will! Thank you!

That sounds good, even though I'm not a squash fan. I wonder if I could substitute sweet potatoes?

Wow Moabite that is a cool video! I don't think of cobb being used in such a wet area but I guess that's what the roof over the whole thing is for. There are a whole bunch of videos for different kinds of DIY outdoor ovens on there. I had no idea! The oven I'm interested in is a huge commercial pizzaria type with plenty of room for wood on one side and food on the other (when I entertain, I really entertain. The more the merrier!). I love to bake and cook for a huge group so big appliances are a must to avoid frustration!

The squash apple bake turned out decent, but did't quite satisfy whatever it was I thought I was trying to create. It was not bad though, and I think sweet potatoes or yams might even be better. I'm still looking for the ultimate squash recipe for pumpkin style squash.

I suppose a bigger oven means more rocks, clay, sand, straw and labor. I'd want it to also be an aesthetic fire-place for entertaining without baking and serve as part of a larger outdoor kitchen complete with direct access to the garden. It would also be totally possible to roof the oven with slate and/or lime plaster if you didn't want it under a larger structure. It could also be made so that cooking with pots and pans with the same fire would be fairly painless. You got me thinking. I've seen something like this somewhere.
