I've stepped all over every surface in my kitchen and filled my pantry and hubby's hunting closet this yr...lol...and I'm still moving my feet:) This is a crazy yr.

I hear ya' there! I've been making all of our usual favorites...and this year I've done some fruit cocktail--Man oh Man! The kids are going through it like MAD!! They've never been fruit cocktail fans....until now! I too am trying to find new places to stash stuff!

Whoops, wrong post. See what happens when you have multiple threads pulled up at once?

Anyhow, I gotta find that recipe for watermelon jelly. I have a watermelon sitting on my counter that I need to do something with.

Hmmmm, have to keep that in mind!

Do you split open and scrape out the flesh only or just hack them up and cook out the juice? I have 2 different recipes, they mention both ways

I just chop them in half and mash them as they boil down. I also just finished making a batch of plum jelly, my husband's fav. I think I'm getting into canning as much as I'm into chickens lol!

I am so sad!

I had pear butter going for a LONG time in that crock pot. I think it would have been ready yesterday around 4. I tried to get home to take care of it, but the friend I was with was giving me the 'wait 2 more minutes for me' routine. She kept having to clean and organize her daughter's room before we could go back to my house. I explained I was going to burn something I was working so hard on and I needed to go take care of it. (Part of my livelihood and all!)

By the time she was done and we could go (OCD much?) I got home at 6:30 and the pear butter had burned on the edges and the whole batch tastes burnt.

I had to dump the whole crock pot!

So help me! I have got to stop being a push over, I just needed to say, "no, I have to make sure this isn't burning and I can't wait until your floors are perfectly vaccumed to deal with it!"

Oh I'm so bummed out. I literally have to go pick more pears at my neighbor's house and start the batch all over again!!!!

I was mostly busy out of the house the last week and a half -- but somewhere in there I managed to do 6 and a 1/2 pints of cherry jelly.

What's funny is, it didn't set up. But after sitting on the stove for a week or more, it's set now ;0) Maybe patience is the key, because I sure thought I was going to have 6 pints of syrup and ice cream sauce the night I made it.

I'm getting ready for Pears now. MIL has a tree that can outproduce me and a small herd of goats. They are so juicy too! I get nearly a pint of jelly for each pear - yippee!
