Second...How many quarts does it say it will hold? Lots of the new ones that are digital and such that I have looked at are around 6 quarts, but don't actually hold 6 quart jars, only pints and half-pints. Can you post what brand/type/etc and I will look it up?

6 Quarts if that what the canner says it is (6 qt pressure canner) then it will hold 6 qt of water or liquid... not 6 1 qt jars. Tricky tricky, threw me off when I first started looking.

it depends on if it is summer squash or winter squash.
Pumpkins, butternuts, Hubbard's will keep in a cool dry place all by themselves.
summer squashes, yellow and zucchini need to be dried, or frozen.
The ball canning book has a the directions on how to can the different hard squash. I canned pumpkin last summer. It was easy enough.
I was at tractor supply this morning and they have this little store magazine up front as you walk in. it has two pages of what to do with Zucchini. the lemon zucchini bread and the zucchini relish looks really good, and I think I will save the last of my squash for them.
My season is almost all over with.

but grapes and pears will finish off the summer. I may just take a drive north and find a vegetable stand.

I'm not a big zucchini fan, but I was told to shred it, squeeze the water out of it and freeze it. Then you can add it to anything and it tastes totally different. I was going to try that if and when my garden grows.

I'm going to make blueberry syrup tonight. I bought 10 lbs of them on sale at City Market (Kroger) this week and we go through tons of it! We're addicted to eating blueberry Eggo waffles with blueberry syrup. (many lactose intolerant family members) The darn syrup costs $3.99 a 12 oz bottle!!! I figure I can make it for a fraction of that. Now to master the art of making, freezing and reheating/toasting waffles. I can make them fresh, but they're never the same after freezing them. They're always soggy even when put in the toaster...

I'll post my results!

BTW--- I see LOTS of applesauce canning in my future...hubby w/his register rewards at Walgreens, was able to purchase 30 bags of 2lb apples that were marked down to 50c a bag...ended up paying like 76c ttl out of pocket (OOP)...
