What are you canning now?

Just finished juicing the pears and now pear jelly is on the list of things to do this weekend!

Canned 15 pints of cherries, froze a gallon bag of cherries. Husband & I have jalapeno poppers in the works now, gonna freeze em when we are done, man they are good.

Hey Vfem did you just use your juicer to juice the pears... I still have a ton of pears to work with, pear jelly sounds good. I think tomorrow I'm gonna do pear butter.

My two trees produced their little hearts out this year and the peaches are delicious, but they've only been planted here for a year (this is their second summer, having been planted last spring) so while we have peaches for fresh eating from our trees I have to buy them for canning. Here the local peaches are $29.98 / bushel, but I didn't think that too bad. It's only $1.66 in peaches per quart canned if you break it down. Add some spices and a little honey and it's a far cry from the $5/quart I would pay in the store for spiced peaches this winter. Plus hubby loves them.

Finally ate the first ripe tomato out of our garden today. A little yellow cherry. It was delicious. Now if the rest of them would just ripen...

I cut up my pears and boil them with water until they are mush and then take a potato masher to them. Then strain out the juice to use for the jelly. Works great for me!

Thanks. I'm gonna try it tomorrow. Take the day off today from canning... but still cleaning & I've need to get to the bell peppers today, company is coming down to cookout/firepit.

*** Counted the poppers we made last night 389, would have been more but some people (husband & teenagers) had to eat a few while we were makin em, lol
