I use to live in Virginia.... IT was so sweet to get fresh apple cider every year. Loved getting apples grown locally. Not happening in FLORIDA.
We have all the oranges and grapefruit you could possible want... not that I eat them!

vfem or anybody else..... I have a saucemaster and this is my first year using it. In the booklet that came with it, it says you can cook the apples ( or pears in this case) until soft and then run them through on the standard screen without peeling or coring first. Any thoughts or experience???

Why don't people can citrus sections? You can buy them in the cold section of the grocery store but I never hear about anyone doing this at home.

Most pressure cookers are too small to be real useful as a canner but if your jars fit I don't see why a cooker wouldn't work just fine. You will need a rack to on the bottom. Check to see if the cooker is designed to operate at canner pressures, about 11 pounds.

It is not like fresh, but when you don't have fresh, it is good enough to eat.
I was a strange child and even though we had fresh citrus, I liked canned citrus juice.

The sections are good, a different texture than fresh, but I guess you have to think of it like apple butter or dried fruit. They are something else unto themselves other than a fresh apple.
Here are more citrus things.

I do, put up 15 pounds of grapefruit in January when they were marked down to 1.20 a 5lb sack and I did a case of oranges as well. I peeled, sectioned and packed with apple juice to 1/2 inch of the top and processed for 10 minutes (pints). Hubby LOVES the oranges, he's eaten all of them already. We are still working on the grapefruit. Great for when you want a little something different.

I need a recipe for low to no sugar apple sauce....

and can I throw some strawberries in there too?

I am going to be having surgery in a few months and post op i will have to take medication crushed in apple sauce.. the problem lies i need as little refined sugar as possible..

or is this a no go?
