What are you canning now?

Mind didn't to well either.. oh wait... I didn't plant anything. I got mine at the local farmstand. They were selling them 40 for $4.
Those pickles look great. So does all of the jams. I wish I could get muscadines here.
I got 8 more quarts of dill pickles done and 7 more pints of sweet chip pickles. Today I have a bushel of peaches to get put in the freezer.

I don't like the red and super sweet plums. Plum jam to me tastes great but is too darn sweet. The kind of plum I like is the black plum at the grocery store and I eat them while they are still quite firm. They're not so sweet that way. Does anyone know exactly what kind of plum this is? I'd like to have a plum tree but I don't want the other kinds.

Apparently Damsons are a tart/sour plum that is not an eating plum. I will look again when I go to see if I can find some. I may have them in the fridge but not sure. The ones I've got weren't quite ripe and an old Italian man said they would ripen. So I bought them for Plum Lime jam. Plan is to make it tonight.

I may do a Plum Black berry jelly. too.

Something was eating my cukes. Plants and all, but I spray them with Sevin and now their doing okay.

The Plum jam came out pretty good, though while the recipe didn't call for Sure Jell , I did add a packet. I don't think they were the right plums. Damson is one I don't think any one really grows or knows. A plum is a plum to most people.
I have some recipes in my canning books for Damson Plum jam if you are interested. I don't think we have them out here, or at least, I've never heard of them out here.

Can sweet pickles be made by adding sugar or something like that? I don't like dill pickles. The tart taste turns me off.
The sweet pickle recipe I have is great, but it's a 21 day process. Starts with brining them for so many days, then you add the sugar, then you can them.

I have the recipe for Damson Plum jam but not sure if I can get them. I suppose with all the new varieties they might be rare or not one commonly grown.

Hey guys,
I found a Mirro 23 quart pressure cooker on craigslist. I know there has been a lot of discussion on here about good cookers, but I am having trouble finding the pages. Any opinions on this one? She is selling for $100 - including a water bath and large stock pot, which I don't really need. It is older, she is calling it vintage :) It has the trays for a double layer of jars.

Any opinions on this? Any questions I should ask? I have only water bath canned so far, so I'm not too keen on pressure canners.

Thanks!!

In my opinion I would say no. The handles may be adequate maybe not, but I see no way to guage or measure pressure. It says it does online. I would find out how often it was used as well. You need specifics to safely use one. Here is a comparison with reviews.

This one is brand new and cheaper as well.

When I studied the best option. I loved this one. She is well made and american craftmanship too.
You might be able to find one elsewhere for less.
