What are you canning now?

Yup, you might need to fence the area off and prevent the deer access.  THe peaches also need a couple trees for pollinating. Yum!!!   Soap can keepthe deer away-- can't remember wish one though. A common brand though.  Like zest.
ok thank you I will have to do that.

Raspberry Butter! I'll be having it on biscuits tomorrow for breakfast! I'll let you know how it turned out.
Hey! I have some of those jars with the little handles too! I bought all kinds of peaches, pears, and mixed fruit in them from Dollar General because I thought they'd make perfect jelly jars! My husband would take the fruit to work for lunch and then bring me the jar back for putting whatever in! I see you had the same idea!! By the way , would you mind sharing the recipe for the Raspberry Butter?

Only a few are self polinating-- need to know which is being planted.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be argumentative in last post. Computer was being really slow and just wanted to get the post out before I rebooted.

Absolutely agree. As with our chickens, it is a great idea to do your research and know your tree before you get it.

No idea what our peach tree is, or our apple tree for that matter. Both were here when we moved in. But, both were loaded this year. And, as was mentioned in other posts, even self-pollinating fruit trees can benefit from having other like trees around to cross-pollinate with.

I can't find the exact image of what I saw several months ago before I saw those little jars but they were basically old mason jars made into a chandelier. I don't really like this one but you can get ideas from it. I wanted to make little lights for my chicken coops with these little jars using a night light size bulb in them. I think they're as cute as can be!

The recipe?

I had about 7 pounds of raspberries. I picked through them to remove any leaves/stems, dumped them into my old crockpot and since they wouldn't all fit, I used a potato masher and started in on them til they were all in the pot and mashed. I put it on low and let them cook all night with the lid on. The next morning, I stuck a corn cob handle under the rim to let steam escape and cooked it on low until last night when it was pretty well reduced. Then I added 3 cups sugar and 1 tbsp vanilla and stirred it in and left it to cook some more over night. The next morning (today) I turned it onto high with the lid off for a couple of hours, just to get it good and hot.

I canned them this afternoon in all these used jars and processed for 10 minutes in boiling water.

The small one in the fancy jar in the front is for my daughter's potential sweetie pie... assuming he likes raspberries. She'll be asking soon.
