What are you canning now?

Well I didnt taste the peppers, just used my chopper and chopped them using gloves just incase. They didn't burn my lungs like the jalapenos did so I am happy about that. Guess it will be a mystery salsa until we try a jar. Thinking about using yellow onions and Walla Walla oniona, since that is all I hsve I on hand.

You can find them at TSC, kmart, target

Boy, I wish they made something like this for use with the Tattler lids. I have a magnetic stick for the metal lids, but must use tongs for the Tattlers

As we speak, I have 7 pints of black eye peas & 4 pints of red beans in the canner. I really wanted to do the peas, and I just did a pound of red beans to fill up the canner.

Mysterious are fun, and it's great when you can remember the recipe if it's good lol

Well I kind of cheat with my salsa, I write the name of the recipe and for the Serrano salsa I am going to write "Serrano Zesty Salsa" on it. My pears are easy, it is always a light syrup. The apricot pineapple jelly has the amount of sugar I used for both recipes.

Well my Mystery Zesty Salsa is finished, 18 1/2 pints looking pretty sitting on my table. Ended up adding 7 Red Ball Peppers that a friend grew and added them to the Serranos, my throat got a little hot as it was heating up on the stove, so I think it will be warm at least. My sister loved the "hot zesty salsa" I made, which really hot, more like a mild than a hot I think. But I think I am finally done with salsa for the year, we made 4 variations of the Zesty Salsa recipe, and I have only have 1 quart of tomatoes done up and no spaghetti sauce either, so I think I will be hoping for extra tomatoes just so I don't have to buy any. Definitly planting more tomatoes next year no matter what Grandpa says, 4 plants were not enough this year.

Yup better to have to many tomatoes, I plant 20 plants or so... Lol loads of tomatoes.
Canning pot is packed up now all done till next harvest.... Time to hibernate and eat salsa.

I think if I did 20 plants my Grandpa would kill me, and my Dad might help. The large portion of the garden in at their house, since they have a garden as big as my apartment. But I don't think I will let the sunflowers take the front window again next year if I am still here, it would be nice to have more tomatoes up front. Majority of my garden here is in pots or my new SFG, that didn't do too bad I think. Looking forward to planting my own seeds next year and getting them to grow instead of spending money on someone else's seeds. Might even get a friends garden spot ready this fall so we can plant there, maybe do some large Sunflowers around the fence area for her squirrel that she raised. She has a bit of an animal problem, 33 Homing Pigeons live at her house and they keep breeding, not to mention the 2 that skipped out on the race and decided to move in. Thinking more pumpkins too since the 2 plants I gave her only gave her a pumpkin each.

But my sunflowers did amazing over there, they just weren't designed to grow under a roof overhang in a planter raised up 3 feet, maybe more peppers up there instead. I have all these places I can grow stuff but the drive is too much for me to want to do it all. That is why I try to limit what I plant at Grandpa's house, hard as it is. I think between the squash plants and the corn rows we only used about half of the garden space, since the watermelon didn't grow, we didn't plant potatoes, and still "limited" Grandpa to 2 cucumber plants and 3 squash and 2 zucchinis. Glad I could get them convinced for 1 cucumber next year, 1 banana squash, NO ZUCCHINI, and possibly more tomatoes. Going to see when the garden comes out in a couple of weeks if I can unload some of my friends bunny poop into the garden to since it has never been fertilized except when the horses go in after the garden is taken out and eat the left over squash and rotten apples.

Think that will attract the wild bunnies in if I put that in the garden?
