What are you canning now?

Thank you, Rancher.
I have a counter full and not up to canning right now.
I used to freeze everything, and now that I can, I kind of forgot about that option.

Starting another 5# batch of kraut in a 1 gallon pickle jar. In about 6 weeks I'll end up with about 2 quarts of fresh kraut to keep in the fridge to snack on at my pleasure.

Well, just a little over 8 liters of kahlua sitting in the closet while the flavors marry. Two 3L bail top jars, a 2L Ball jar, and a small (8 oz?) syrup bottle full. I may have to try the liqueur version next time. We'll see what the ladies (Mom and wife) think of it after it ages a month. So far even "fresh" it is getting the thumbs up from both of them.

Not really canning but...

After much success with and many batches of the homemade vanilla, vanilla liqueur, and fake Disaranno amaretto I'm going to be making a big batch of Kahlua coffee liqueur this weekend.
Not sure if I'm going to make the drinking version or go for the thicker, liqueur version. Either way, I'll be adding a few vanilla beans and aging it in a large jar. Once it is aged, probably for about a month, I'll pour through a coffee filter into small bail top bottles and add a vanilla bean to each.

It's so cold here I just toss everything up in the air and it's froze before it comes down.

-30F with the windchill here this morning. I seriously thought I might find at least one chicken frozen to the roost, but they were all huddled together in a bunch, chattering away at me. Mom! It's so cold! We are 30 degrees below normal for this time of year. Only relief in sight is to warm up to 21F on Saturday and then back into the single digits. And then there are people posting on other threads about the bees out looking for pollen and the tulips coming up! Sheesh! Spring, come sooooooon!!

That was us all through november, which was early for us. Now we have two days like that and then one in the 40s. But we are used to the cold and bitter winds, that never stop.

Putting up some noodles to dry today.

I just started my garden seeds, and we have our bulb flowers popping up. Oh, and my fruit trees and bushes are budding. Does that help any?

Got home from church last night just in time. It was a white out. This am snowblowed and still have more to do. Raked some snow off the roof.

There is a report that Owls from the Arctic are in NYC. Can you believe that?

Earlier this week, the Bryant Park fountain froze solid, and now, in another example of just how brutally cold it is outside, DNAinforeports that owls from the freakin'arctic have temporarily migrated to NYC to enjoy the freezing temps.
About seven snowy owls have been spotted this year in the New York City area, mostly in coastal parts of Queens and Brooklyn. But for what bird experts think is the first time ever, they've also started to gentrify Governors Island. (If they're hoping to scope the best view of Drake, they should head to Randall's Island instead.)
