What are you canning now?

I'm supposed to be canning, but instead.... I'm going to start making my sun dried tomatoes today with temps in the 100's. Why? Because I sun dry them in my car!!!

Things are just ripening here. I have more strawberries ready to make jam today. I'm pretty sure that half of the jars of strawberry jam I made earlier this summer are gone. I picked up these berries at Aldi's for a good price.
I also have enough ripe cucumbers to make a jar of the Claussen Refrigerator Pickles today. Everyone likes them here and I can't keep enough of them in the frig.

Storage problems...........yep, have them here also. Thankfully, we have one room dedicated to storing filled jars. Efficient shelving is on my wish list - I need my DH to get rid of the shelving we currently have and build floor to ceiling shelves. Too much wasted space going up.
My big problem is storing empty jars.

Next up: we're tearing out built in cabinets in what used to be the dining room but is now an extension of the kitchen and putting in industrial style shelving units because they'll hold more.

I may have a problem, but I'm not ready to admit it.

Hahaha! Famous last words. Last time my husband came home to me ripping something up he just shook his head and asked what I wanted him to do now.

He's a good sport.

Well I've got one pot filled with Pink Currants washed and ready to go, and I've got one pot filled with Red Currants and ready to go and I've got Goose berries washed and raspberries in the freezer for another jam. Iv'e got Red Currants but need 2 lbs of Raspberries for another. (I did all the berries up in jam last night forgetting I need to save 2lbs. So now I need more) Also I have a lb/1cup of black currants and an extra 2lbs or so of Red Currants. I got the last of the gooseberries. I needed 1 lb but picked 2 cuz they may not be as juicy this late.

All are washed and cleaned ready to be done up. BUT I need to buy more jars and a few other things to be added to the recipes.

Now, How do you strain your Currants? I used cheese cloth last time but it's messy. Any other ideas of making it easier?

HA! See, I'm not crazy! I have to tell my husband that quick. Hehehehe

She really was the proverbial old lady that only drove her car to church on sunday. I can picture in my mind as clear as day cookie sheets with green beans spread out on them sitting on the dash of her 51 Plymouth. Those dried beans (leather britches) were good too.

This is so neat!
I've read of folks using their cars for drying, but never actually known anyone that has done it personally.
How long does it take? Say, for tomatoes? Do you prep them the same as when using a dehydrator?

When we were moving into our current home, I wanted to tear a wall out that the prior owners had put in to make an additional bedroom (tearing it out would make the family room a large gathering place). My husband didnt want to do it, but caved and said OK. So he went to the kitchen to relax after all the moving....and i grabbed a sledge hammer and started taking the wall down. He came running back in going "what are you doing".....well that was pretty obvious...I guess he meant we could take it down in the future.

He finished taking it down the next day. What choice did he have really? Husbands are awesome! Now I know that if I want a project done, I just start doing it and he shows up to take over as he cant stand to see me working so hard by myself.
