If I've read the book, I never watch the movie. I like to keep my mental image of characters and settings intact. The trick is to enjoy the books as books... enjoy the movie as a movie... don't compare...
Oh I loved a dogs purpose! I found it at a flea market for .50 and read it about six months before they started advertising the movie. So so glad I got to read it first. Funny that I happened on to it and was telling everyone to read it and then who could figure. . . it's a movie now.

once is sufficient, thanksWell, most of the time. (Last of the Mohicans, anyone?)
I actually really liked the way a dogs purpose movie ended vs how the book ended. I thought it was a very good alternate spin on the ending that wasn't quite as tragic and sad. I can see why they didn't want to end on such a heart wrenching note.
My mom actualy offered it to me in early February to read but it was right after we lost our husky Dreamy. I couldn't bring myself to read it until now. I purposely didn't watch the movie either until after I read it. Wow, HUGE difference.
I agree. There's so much more detail and actual story in books. They paint such an amazing picture.
My absolute favorite book of all time is White Fang by Jack London. I love the way he describes everything. I've read that book more times than I can count.

Totally agree! (Though I do try to read the book first if I can so I can make my own mental impressions reading before seeing the movie. If I read afterwards, I tend to be seeing the movie in my head.)
Usually have several books going at once. Just now I have Walter Mosley's "Blonde Faith"; Marc Bloch "Feudal Society"; William Burr "Self-Contradictions of the Bible"; Doc Savage "The Green Eagle"; Winston Churchill "Their Finest Hour"; and Allen & Gin's "Innards and Other Variety Meats" (I read cookbooks like other folks read novels). Prolly got a few more lying around, too, that I forgot for the moment ... . I read constantly, books in every room, book in my satchel and in my car. Not much T.V., tho.
Oh, yeah, I am also on Patrick O'Brian's "The Mauritius Command."
