I do not believe that pig has good intentions.

Was it "Animal Farm" where the pigs ruled supreme? I think I read it in JR High School. They sold the horse to the dog food factory or something. VERY evil pigs.

LOL i'll have to look up that book...

"...Atlas Shrugged as a good story but I can't stand Ayn Rand. Her philosophical views became sacrosanct, and huge portions of US economic and political philosophy were based on her ideas. She was a novelist! And her world view was extremely narrow. ..."

Indeed, that's true! But you know, I find myself thinking about that valley often when crisis after crisis hits the headlines. In fact, it's almost code between DH and me...things get tense, and we'll make some comment about finding that valley! It's fascinating to me how literature sticks in the brain, bits and pieces to be pulled out again and again to make a point, share an idea, firm up a dream... ~G

I just finished reading "The Lovely Bones" This was a really good book...but very disturbing (I understand the movie does not have the disturbing parts in it).

I also just finished "Dewey, The Smalltown Library Cat" another really nice, well written book.

Currently reading: "Guns, Germs, and Steel, The Fates of Human Society" LOVING this book - but it is a difficult read for me, as I COULD have paid more attention during all of my history classes in high school & college! This book explores why some countries developed and thrived while others floundered - and the parts that the ability to develop weapons, the spread of disease, and steel affected these outcomes.

In the cue to read next: "Mind of the Raven" by Bernd Heinrich. An account of his raising ravens mixed with an extensive natural history

eta: I loved reading what else everyone has been reading, and added many of the books to my "to-read" list. Thanks!

I love Janet Evonovich, every time I read her books I LOL and people look at me funny. I love all kinds of books! I read John Grisham, James Patterson, Kathy Reichs, JD Robb and tons of others. I also really love fantasy books, George R R Martin, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Terry Brooks, Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss. Right now I am re-reading Robert Jordan's series because a new book came out, it's #12, and I am on #4.

I'm still reading Phantom Tollbooth and at the same time Practical Poulty and Back yard Chicken and Bee Culture magazines. I also have a copy of an old "5th reader" next to the bed its has short excerps from Novels and such.
