You want to contact your local post office and leave them your name and number and tell them you are expecting chicks to arrive and approximate date. That way they have a heads up. and in my case I was glad I did because my local Post Office informed me that it would actually be the larger post office 5 miles away that would call me when my chicks came in. Otherwise I would have driven to the wrong post office when they called.Oh yes please let me know the quality. I would also like to know if they send extras and
how your post office contacts you. Shewsh that was a lot of excitement that bubbled!
My email is [email protected]
thank you,
my union hill ranch order came in early this morning! Everyone looks fine!8 blue lace red wyandotte and 2 blue maran chicks from Union Hill Ranch and 8 more blrw from Sunset Meadow Farm. Both shipping out today
I sort of hoped it would be of what we ordered. I sure hope so. However if a surprise one happens to jump in I don't mind. I know I have got surprise chicks coming out of my hatching eggs in less then 2 weeks, so we shall seechicken math will kick in every time you see a sign at the tractor store that says chicks for sale or even when your on here ..lol just incase you haven't read this yet heres the link..

most hatcherys will ship extras from what I have read ..i am thinking that in general that they just send the breeds you wished ..but i have read were others had gotten mystery chicks ..lol..but they exsplained it as a chick that jumped from one box to another ..and just got mixed in ..also its seems they mostly only send a couple extra and that in my case it was kind of a odd thing..
its exciting to get them ..and once you open up the box and find everyones ok , then it becomes like a sigh of releaf..but in some cases you may find some didn't travel well and it can be a bummer to find them dead or near death..ya may not want the kids standing near by when you open them just in case..i no my granddaughter wanted to be there but i lucked out she was in school..sorry ,just a heads up on this ..
I just stopped by the post office today to let them know that we are expecting chicks next week, and I asked them what time the truck usually arrives. The lady was very stern with me and told me that the mail must be delivered, as addressed, and that I would have to wait until the postal carrier brought them to my door. Or I could notify them 3 days in advance and pick them up at the post office, but not before lobby hours began.
I said, "Are you sure? Even for baby chicks?" And she said, "Oh! Baby chicks! I thought you said checks."
So I should be expecting a phone call next Wednesday around 6:15 AM.![]()
They came!! Oh I'm so excited I'm driving my entire family & even all my facebook friends crazy from being so happy and posting photos!
I now have (total of 26 littles):
3 Buff Orpington
2 Australorp
3 Silver Laced Wyandottes
3 Black Jersey Giant (hen)
1 Black Jersey Giant (Roo)
3 Light Brahma
11 Americauna
I hadn't ordered the Americauna's, or two of the orpingtons, only found them by accident yesterday while in TSC for something completely unrelated...
I bought all of the day old Easter Eggers they had available. I was so excited to find them I almost did a "snoopy dance" right there in the middle of the store.
My husband has cut me off from buying any more babies this year, says I've lost it, and he's probably right considering I will have 32 chickens now once these new babies are all grown up, but OMG they're so cute!! :-D
