I know right!!!! I have googled all day long. Posted all over here. I have many pasty bums and trying to figure out if there is anything that should feed them to help with it, or if I need to just leave them alone cause many say its due to stress, and when they arrived it was obvious there was stress. The difference with this one little ones Im helping, as I was helping her, she started to get feisty and wanted put back! I got very excited when that happened cause I was like she has her spunk back! hahahahaha Before she lost it and the other chicks I mean they would just trample her and she was weak and wouldn't even get up or chirp to get them off. I really feel good about her now. Gonna make my last rounds, and rest! I will be watching for your 5 babes in that AM! Night!

i never got chicken mail i went down to the breeder about an hours drive away i went there after sailing. i got 3 silkies from a place call crages farm in australia and im so glad i did

Hi everyone, I am extremely new to this website. My family, we are in the process of raise baby chickens. We have never done this before, however since we are now in Hillcountry in Texas we will be raising chickens and rabbits, we are very, very excited. Tomorrow, I am taking my younger sister to go to a tractor supply store to get all the fixings that we need to get a starter kit going for our baby Chickies. I am interested in any insight that you guys can share with us as to what types of chickens we should buy, any tricks of the trade, literally anything will help. How many should we start out with us? We have a few big buckets, they are solid and almost in the shape of a laundry basket. Everyone that I spoke with said that it would be an excellent brooder for our new little babies. Can you share some insight on how to Do the brooder? does it have to be with wood, pine, oak or cedar chips? I saw someone on this website who put down what almost looked like linen that was lined at the bottom and then she had her feeders and water on top of that. Is it really okay to do that? Or do I NEED the wood chips? As far as feeding and watering them, I understand how clean it needs to be every few hours checking it, but is there anything that I need to do to the water IE electrolytes or apple cider vinegar? And the food for them will be the crumbles and do I feed them the crumbles all day every day while there a baby and that's it and then move to an adult food afterwards? Are we supposed to bathe them? How many of them should we get and what kind? I'm just so excited! We just won a farm and we like to be able to gather fresh delicious eggs every single day. Any advice will do so much good. If you are looking for eggs think Rhode Island reds or leghorns.
No ceader wood shavings they can kill chicks.
The rubber maid containers make great brooders I use a shipping crate that is 7ft by 4ft. But I also do 50 chicks at a time.
Start small get 5 or more chicks and see where it takes you that's what I did and I have over 50 now lol.
I would only bath them if I had show birds Other then that they take care of them selves.
You start with chick starter feed then go to grower feed then layer feed.
Best advice is do a search on this site and you will find everything you need to know...

I got my chicks feb 24th...15 SLW, 10 cornish x, then the bantams 5 ee, 5 partridge cochins, 5 barred cochin, 5 buff brahma, 6 black silkies. All doing well.in shipping I lost 2 slw and two bantams, and 2 cornish last week when the dummies knocked over their water then laid in it to drown...I picked up 5 white rocks and 2 extra cornish the 27th. Last Friday I added 3 pekins and I have 7 dorkings set to hatch Sunday (sold already) 4 swedish ducks hatching the 28th. Setting 6 more swedish and 12 blue ameracauna eggs this wends.... I have a brooder room in my basement.. 6 big rubbermaid tubs set on old bed frames on is a old toddler bed. And a 5or 6 ft kiddy pool that I moved the meaties into... so ithink my current total is.57-3 week old chicks, 2- 6 week old chicks ,3- 1 week old duck's. I have a 1500 sq ft unfinished basement even the 6 week olds are still in just in a multilevel rabbit cage. I have already went through 50 lbs of food, 10 lbs of higher protein food. 1 4oz bag of vitamins 3 bags of woodshaving, about 10 rolls of paper towels. For those new owners I bought 3 trash cans with lids one for feed,one for shavings horse shavings are the cheapest and you get a lot. Remeber big flake small is like saw dust. I change shaving ever 3 daysjust top with some pdz (natural controls smell )and new shavings every day.

You gotta clean off pasty butt just over the vent tho and be careful of belly button. It goes away 2nd. 3rd week.

I tried to do that and only ordered 15 for the end of April. Couldn't wait so cancelled that order and placed one for 25 so they'd ship right away.

The difficult part about doing that is that most of the breeds I want are now sold out for the next several weeks - including a few after the week I ordered mine for. So it wouldn't be available any sooner. One in particular had extremely limited quantities and the entire *year* sold out soon after they were listed (white frizzle cochin).
