WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? WHAT DID YOU JUST RECEIVE?

I picked up my day-old white leghorns today. I ordered 12, but they sent me 13!

The dog crate is obviously a temporary accommodation as it's going to get cramped in there pretty quickly!

And here's one of my pooch being (surprisingly) calm around the new arrivals that have invaded her house.

The last of the crew!! 2 speckled Sussex... CB & Jeffie... They are full of spunk!!

Metzer's emailed me back and told me that usps has been really bad this year...last year only 4% of orders were delayed by usps and this year so far 50% of orders have been delayed...darn usps

I'm a first-time chickeneer. A week ago I picked up an Olive Egger, a Black French Copper Marans and a Dominique from Meyer Hatchery. It's hard to believe how much they've grown in just a week.

Here they are in their travel box:

I think this is the Marans on day one:

Here's the Olive Egger at one week:

I'm still giddy each time I check on them in the brooder. This is awesome stuff!

Oh dear I'm worried. Every set of birds I've ordered has come on Wednesday with a 0% death rate. Now they should be coming tomorrow and I'm a little worried. But I am lucky because I ordered Gro-Gel with it, so that makes me a little more comfortable. But I'm starting to wonder if I will finally lose a bird in the mail.

Ok, people talk about chicken math around here and I have seen it in action! Chicken math has DEFINITELY kicked in around my house, we started with 8 hens and 1 rooster, then decided to order 3 chicks to grow with my ducklings I ordered (thinking that they would help to integrate as they got bigger) and those 3 golden comets are due to arrive on Saturday. We have 10 more eggs in the incubator and they are due the 12th of April and now my husband wants me to go on over to TSC and pick up 6 more tomorrow (I think he's more impatient than I am) So in total I am expecting 9 pullets this week and some more in April.

Yes chicken math at my house is more like chicken multiplication... Started with 4 adopted Leghorn hens full grown. Then 2 EE, 2 SLW, 2 JG & 2 BB chicks from the feed store. Then 5 frizzle chicks, 9 BLRW chicks mail order and a hatching order for 8 more. So what started as 4 now has become 34. Lol. Had to build a new coop before the 1st one was even 2 weeks old.
