I resisted the urge to get some straight run White Plymouth Rocks at TSC this weekend.. It was hard but I managed. If I didn't have so many coming in the mail in a few weeks I am sure 6 of them would be here.

Just received my Barred Rock, Black Star, Americua and buff orpington chicks today! The post office called at 6:30 this morning and said, "did you order some chicks?" Now they are merrily peeping along in my garage in their new digs.

I'm a first time chicken owner to be, waiting for a shipment from Meyer Hatchery this week. Expecting 4 Buff Orpingtons, 4 Easter Eggers, and one mystery Meal Maker. My 8 year old son is so excited, he is on spring break next week and said all he wants to do is stay home and watch the chicks. :)

Yes, waiting for the chicks is nerve-wracking!! Do you have your brooder set up yet? Your son could help and then feel like he's their 'keeper' of sorts...it IS exciting! Best of luck to you all!

Deal With Travel Stress in Baby Chicks
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/746509/how-to-deal-with-travel-stress-in-baby-chicks
Tractor Supply has the best price at 6.99 for the 4 oz. bottle which is plenty for you.
What makes this product special is that it doesn't need to be digested. When chicks get
stressed, it effects their G.I, tracts ability to uptake any help you give it. Digesting these
helps can take up to 3 hrs. Poultry Nutri-Drench mainlines directly into the bloodstream.
50% uptake in 15 minutes. 99% uptake in 30 minutes. It is more than smple electrolytes
and doesn't have the added fat of nutri-cal. If your store is sold out of Poultry Nutri-Drench....
tho the formulas are species -specific, they also meet the scientific standards for a universal
formula...so in a pinch you can use one of the other formulas. Now Pet Nutri-Drops is made
for pets under 25 lbs. and their newborns. That's a good substitute. Use with the same
usage and dosage instruction Bovidr Labs gave me in Post number one at the above URL.
This will mitigate travel stress and get your chicks off to a strong start. I put the maintaince
dose in their water for the 1st 2 weeks to get them off to a strong start.
I've used this company's products on my collies and birds for over a decade. It is top flight.

lol congrats im a first timer too.. got my chicks 5 weeks ago.. they are 5 weeks old already! how time flies.. your 8 year old will love to help you...he will want to get the food and everything... but try to not let the kids hold them for the first 2 weeks.. so they can adjust.. the moment they arrive give them sugar water... it will help the chicks ;) if u have any questions at all feel free to pm me.
