WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? WHAT DID YOU JUST RECEIVE?

I'm getting my first birds on 7/8 from McMurray!

1 Black Australorp hen (my choice)

1 Silver Laced Wyandotte hen (my hubby's choice...good choice! I love Wyandottes)

1 Partridge Rock hen (both our picks since we both wanted a Rock)

2 Cayuga duck hens

1 Cayuga duck drake (can't have roosters, but I can have a drake!)

1 Rare breed mystery chick (McMurray's choice of sex and breed).

12 Red Rangers

I do have experience with chickens and ducks, I just haven't done it since I was 12 years old! *blows dust off of brain*

Our contractor is downstairs right as I type getting things set up for some renovations to our home, part of which is going to be the coop! Our coop is going to be part of a new deck setup (the deck we have is a safety hazard and literally being propped up by cinder blocks) and he also has chickens of his own, so he's really excited about creating this for us. Everything will be ready long before the chicks even arrive, and then of course they will be in the brooder for a while before they even get to try it out. :)

The deck and run will be a total of 10 x 24 and we can only have 6 birds in our city (anything under 12 weeks does not count and the rangers will be butchered at that mark) so they are going to be SUPER spoiled with all that space. XD

Not sure what the "mystery chick" will be, but if it's a rooster it will become soup, if it it's a hen I may keep, sell, or eat her depending on what she is and whether our choice picks for layers turn out alright.

I ordered 15 chicks from eFowl on 5/15. They shipped last Wednesday and I picked them up Friday morning. Going by their 5 per breed minimum, 15 total minimum, my order was 5 EE pullets, 4 SLW pullets and a roo, 4 Welsummer pullets and a roo. After paying they changed my order to add 1 more SLW pullet and 1 more Welsummer pullet with no extra charge. On top of that they sent an extra EE pullet, giving me a total of 18 chicks. All seem healthy so far!

And here they are. On their way out for their first yard outing.

Just got my shipping notice!

1 Golden Laced Wyandotte
1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
1 Easter Egger
1 Lt Brown Leghonr
2 Black Copper Marans
1 Lt. Brahma
2 Welsummer

1 Lt. Brahma Roo

I have more coming next week.:

1 Olive Egger
1 Blue Ameraucana
1 Easter Egger
1 Cream Legbar
1 Lt Brown Leghorn
2 Lavender Orpington

1 Black Copper Maran Roo

Here is my Brooder. Before moving to Nebraska three months ago I had a catering business in Baltimore Maryland Area and kept some of the equipment. Never know when it will come in handy! lol
I turned one of my stainless prep tables into my brooder. Put the lower shelf on upside down so there is a lip to hold the pine shavings in. Wrapped in Hardward cloth. I got the small Brinsea Brooder to warm my babies and put in a soft red light just so they can see to drink and eat. I will also add a daylight light on a timer as they will be in a window less room.

My order ships next week from efowl. I ordered 5Welsummers, 5 Golden Comets and 5 Naked Necks. I'm very excited! I'm also adding a couple easter eggers from a local lady
tomorrow so I may end up with a rooster!

Soon to be first time chick mom! Ordered 6 chicks from Meyer's and they are be here in 11 days (but who's counting?!) and I could not be more anxious. Doing an almost obsessive amount of researching and browsing of these forums over the last few weeks. Chicken math will happen to me eventually I'm sure, but for now I am getting 2 buff orpingtons, 2 barred rock, and 2 Easter eggers. Hope I'm ready for these little gals! :)

My post office called this morning to pick up my chicks, I was thrilled, I grabbed my Chihuahua and headed down there. I picked them up and was headed back when I was hit head on by another car. The dog and the chicks went flying into the floor board of the car. They survived the impact but when I was talking to the policemen my dog had gotten into the shipping box and killed one of my Jersey Giant chicks. I was heart sick! The good news is that all of the other chicks survived both the crash and the dog attack. The bizare thing is that There was an extra chick in the box that appears to be a little older than the others???? I don't get it. So the whole situation was "Twilight Zoneish" However, the chicks are doing great! (the ones that lived) I feel so bad.

Jersey Giant (which I named Solo) This little girl will have a special place in my heart now.

Good GRIEF! What a ride that must have been! I'm just so glad to hear you, chicks and your dog are okay...sorry for the loss of the one. The pics you shared...my goodness, there's nothing like little fuzzy-butts is there?!! Best of luck and keep us updated.

WOW! Are YOU OK? never mind the chicks OR the dog! How are YOU? And just curious, but why did you bring the dog with you to pick up chicks? I hope your JG is a pullet and lives a long healthy life!
