When we were preparing for the hurricane, I cut a bucket full of grass and weed clippings and fed them in the coop their scratch and a healthy handful of clippings a few times a day (mostly the clippings) - there was never any left. So I was planning to just do that once I build the run.
Keep in mind too - my run is on the backside of my barn and pasture. My barn is 140 years old and set in a woods setting along with my pasture. There are tons of bugs, crickets, and what have you.
