Don't get to have chicks this coming spring, maybe next. If we can afford to get the "leak" in our smaller pond fixed there might be some ducklings in my near future. I don't want them if they have to go to the larger pond further from the house. The little pond has all but dried up and needs to be re-graded. That'll cost at least $60 an hour and be a 2 day job.

As for chickens, already thinking about a nice bantam breed that I could have just a few of and how I'm going to keep them apart from the vultures (my brahmas).

Plans for spring...hmm...well I am hoping to just be getting eggs from my existing chickens!!!

Only thing I can think of is I would like to get a couple more black sumatras (pullets) for my Jett. And try to add a pair or trio of Columbian Wyandotte Bantams.

Now my 9 year old daughter has been making her own plans! She told her dad that come spring, she wants 5 New Hampshire Reds, 4 pullets and 1 cockerel! She's even started saving money towards her goal!

We will be building a bigger and better coop and run for the girls (3 RIR's, 3 BO's, 2 EE's, 2 BSL's). My plan is to incorporate it near/into the garden I hope to start putting in as well so they can free range more. I don't have any plans to add more chickens but who knows. I can't resist those little fuzzies when they start arriving at the feed store

I'm going to try to not add anything new, but to concentrate on what I have and add to my breeders. A dog attack knocked out most of my work this year, so I am sadly almost at the same spot I was last year. I'll have the following...

B/B/S Standard Cochins... these are my nicest quality birds. I did get to add 3 pullets from my own breeding to the pen from this year and they are AWESOME! Hoping to add some SQ birds from a different line.

Blue wheaten Ameraucana.... I have 6 hens, 2 pullets, a rooster and a cockerel. I lost almost a dozen pullets to the dog of this variety. Hoping to do some selective matings here and again, add a different line.

White Ameraucana.... I only have a few of these and my cockerels both have off colored legs. Going to see what they produce with my hens, but hoping to add a nicer rooster next year.

Frizzled EE..... I recently added a frizzled Easter Egger roo to my collection and I am going to pair him up with my B/B/S Ameraucana hens, EE hens, Marans hens and my Ameracana x Turken hens. These are just for fun!

I also got a gold duckwing EE rooster and would like to cross him on some duckingwing colored EE hens and maybe some wheaten Ameraucana hens to see if I can get the color to breed true as it is one of my favorite colors.

And I will have my mixed color silkie pen that is there for fun and for broodies!

If I add anything... it will be Golden Cuckoo Marans. Shhh, I did not say that!

Hopefully we will have 2 chickens living with us by Spring.

We'll start putting our shed coop and run together so I can get some hatching eggs!

The goal is to start with 2, then 4, then 6 -- working up to 8 only if it seems like they're doing OK with the amount of room we have.

Adding onto the run. I have mentioned this to dh, but i dont think he was taking me seriously.

Insulating the coop

Building a screen front and door for the sliding doors doorway. So that they can get more ventilation in the coop during the summer.

I am hoping that I can work my currently part time job into a full time job by summer. With the price and availability of part time day care I might as well work longer and pay for a full time spot:mad:

I'm supposed to be getting my first 5 chicks at the end of December, so by spring I'm gonna need to get a new run built!(Already got the coop)

Maybe by the end of spring we'll have eggs
