What are your chickens afraid of?

Reinbeau- when I lived down on the South Shore my Arabian gelding would stop everything he was doing and tilt his head to watch the jets fly over.
My moms house is pretty close to Boston and right in the flight paths. So they can be pretty low. Sometimes low enough to read the tail to find out which airline. Back in the day the Weymouth Airstation was open and my mares would freak out when one of the jets or the bigger planes flew over, nearly an hourly occurrence. Took the girls a while to relax about that.

Where we live now we have a small municipal air port. Those planes and pilots are the ones that scare me. A few years ago they were dropping from the sky on a pretty regular basis. We arent near the airport, but I still get nervous when I hear them flying over

I have yet to find anything my chickens (or any other animal) is afraid of.
We have so many different animals, that they all just kinda run together.
They birds will eat with the pigs, graze with the sheep, sleep with the cats, jump on the dogs, even walk under the horses.
They constantly are visiting the rabbits, picking treats outta the llama's wool, and holding long conversations with the geese. They jump in the pool with the ducks, explore with the guineas, and hold contests with the goats.
Kinda sounds like a 'mad house'/'funny farm'.
They have no fear of anything. The vehicles, lawm mowers, tillers, tractors, NOTHING. They barely move to safety when a vehicle comes in the yard. Backing the cars/trucks up is more nerve racking on me than anything else. Because the birds won't move. More times that not I have had to get outta the truck chase the birds away so I could finish backing up, only to have the birds right back to where they were before I even get back into the truck...

Heck I have even watched our daughters put a few chickens on the trampoline with them and the birds just sit there bouncing...

Funny you should ask that, because we have actually had people stop randomly to just look at the animals-like it's some type of petting zoo or something..

Sure you can!!!!
just bring a barn boots and a shovel...Maybe a pitch fork and wheel barrel too. Can always use the extra help, and my kids would probably love the fact that they don't have to do it, if someone else were here helping.. LOL

I put a new nest box in their coop and they would not go in until it was removed. Sigh, They are deathly afraid of my hbs truck. If it is parked anywhere around them they go into the coop and huddle. I think I have 2 brahma. They were molting when I got them and have not layed but appear to be female. One has white legs and one yellow. Weired. They are just getting use to me and have quit running when I come up. I sing to them. They like that and will sing their little songs too. They love greens. Jean

Everything but 'The lady with the treat plate'.

Windy day yesterday and the leaves were flying by from the tree in the front yard, and they would run terrified. One was picking through straw on the ground and a piece flicked to the side near another pullet... she screeched ran 20 ft under the deck! And this is just yesterday!

Rhett&SarahsMom, I am also under the old flightpath to the Naval Air Station, that's a lot closer. Thank goodness for the chickens it's closed down - when they had the air shows they'd turn right over my house

The jets were cool, but let me tell you, when that huge C5 Galaxy was banking around up there, it made me very nervous! How could anything that big stay in the air when it appeared to move so slowly? Of course it's all size and scale, but I'm telling you, I was glad when it was back over Rockland!

We have a lot of Coast Guard FalconJets and helicopters doing patrols on our coastline, but thankfully the girls are used to it.

What really panics them is the dreaded RAKE.

HAWKS definetely, they are well aware of them and if a bird flies low over their run they shut it down on a dime!! Freeze up and don't move!! That to me is their biggest fear besides me chasing them around and grabbing one every now and then.
