I have 5 chickens that are 3 years old. I was wondering what other peoples' hens like for snacks? Mine love cheese (occasional treat) , corn, oatmeal, and sunflower seeds. What do your chickens like?

Really? I never would have thought of dill. Once I hung an apple in their pen. They loved it! They also like to jump for string beans that hang out of the garden.

Mine like a lot of fruit & veggies, but their absolute favorite is dill. They go nuts for it!
Yup. After I've finished making pickles, I'll let the remaining seed heads mature and I'll hold it out in front of them and they'll peck every seed off of it.

I rotate treats over time- dill seeds, bits of tomato, hard-boiled egg, dried meal worms. I just found out that they like arugela (a spicy lettuce) this spring. They also get occasional berries- blackberry, raspberry, goji & goumi. Most anything bug-damaged from my garden goes to the chickens.

Meal worms and cooked eggs are definitely their favourites. I've always been able to entice a sick hen to eat by offering canned cat food.

They seem to like watermelon on a hot day.
In the winter when it's cold and snowy and they're confined to the run I've been known to make homemade flock blocks. They mostly consist of their own food, some flax, a small amount of oatmeal and BOSS, and some molasses and egg to hold it all together.

I only have 6 though so I try to keep treats to a minimum. They usually just get them during the week when I need to get everyone back in the run before I head to work. Five of them follow, one always needs to be bribed. Every second day I trick them and just put some of their crumbles in a container with water.
