What are YOUR experiences on how Dogs have changed??

Thank you for your answer. I did guess correctly but I wanted to be sure.

I have one that I bought from the local county shelter and she is the best dog that I have had yet. Very willful but happy that she has "two squares and a cot." Althought the vet stated that she is a german shepherd I think there is another breed in her even if a few generation have passed. She is very long and skinny, loves to run though. I grew up without animals but have grown to love them. They can teach a person a lot about themselves.

I think that she will always need to be reminded of her manners. But she knows her stuff, if I ask her if she is a good girl she becomes prostate in front of me but so far she still is not throughly trusting. I can bath her and brush her teeth, but not rub her belly ?

she looks pure shepherd to me. What about her makes you think she is a mix? The variations in the GSD breed are so great that they are barely recognizable as the same dog

I am a vet's assistant at Scott City Animal Clinic and they also board dogs and cats as well so I have seen LOTS of dogs and I can say that I have seen many roll their eyes at me. Especially the purebred smart ones that I can tell had some schooling, like they truly feel they are smarter then me (sometimes I feel like they really are). I have also seen them get this look in their eyes like “Oh come on, you have got to be kidding me, and you really expect me to do that?” I still crack up when I am working really hard with a dog, trying to do something he (and I) really don’t want to do, and the dog lets out a really long sigh, like this is just so hard for him, like I don’t already know he doesn’t approve, I just wish the dogs realized it’s not all that easy for me either!

cat1994 ya know, it seems as if the smarter dogs do get to learn to communicate by watching humans expressions and copying what they see. The long sigh for example. Now would you see a deer do stuff like that. Or a deer roll their eyes.

dainerra When I see other GS in person and pictures of them, it seems as if the ears are shorter and the hind legs are lower than the front. Also her body is quite long and when she walks she prances. I like the way she looks but other folks reinforce my questions about her. And you know I really did not know there were many different shapes of GS. It is only recent that I thought about the breed when I was looking and reading about personalities and traits on the net. The other dog that I would love to have would be the farm raised Anatolian. Only if I lived on a ranch would I have one. For now it is just my BYC and Lovie. What a silly name I gave her !

"Rolling eyes" that is talked about with behavior in the ring is refering to the dog's eyes shifting, and specifically seeing the sclera (whites) of the eyes. This indicates uncertainty and fear in a dog and is a pre-cursor to aggression.

I've never seen a dog roll it's eyes with a human attitude though-- but if I do I'll revisit this thread to tell you all about it LOL.

Seeing the whites of eyes in a dog, IMO would make me think that RAGE would be soon coming !! And I might try for higher ground !!! But I have heard dogs emit long sighs. Which I think is funny !

the look of 'popping the eyes' with the white showing and no blinking is the scary one ---

the sighing and 'rolling eyes' is the amusing one ---
