What are your five favorite breeds and why

As I only have 4 birds. and two are SLW I have to say.

#1 Sally, she's a Buff Orpington. Docile bird I've had her for 5 months. Lays large eggs 65+ grams. Doesn't fight with others and eats well.

#1 Bert, I think a ISA Brown, only bird still laying almost daily Skinny but eats well. Is at the top of the pecking order. Will let me pick her up also.

#3 Louise, SLW fuzzy butt, started laying at 17 weeks. Didn't eat well at first during integration. But eating fine now. Doesn't really care for mealworms but will eat them. Sally and Bert love them

#4 Thelma, another SLW. Just has to peck me before she will let me pick her up. Both SLW would prefer to "fly" in and out of coop I've only had them for about 5 weeks. So they are slowly getting better with me picking them up.

All in all good layers. 2 eggs most days. Actually, Sally laid yesterday I was right there watching her.

1. Russian Orloff - I love their beards, muffs and crazy long necks. They have such an inquisitive personality and they alway look angry! I love their orloff brow! Also, Im not going to complain about winter eggs. They lay pretty consistently.
2. Modern Game Bantam - Chicken nuggets on stilts. Sweet birds too, I have a pair and I cannot get over my cockerels crow.
3. Mottled Houdan - They look silly and run like they're having a seizure. But once tamed super friendly.
4. Cuckoo Bluebar - super fluffy and cuddles, beautiful eggs too
5. Cochin bantam - fluffy popcorn ball chicken! I love watching them run

Oh, gee...that's a tough question. Let me take the two seconds I'll need to decide!

1) Light Brahmas! Gentle, moderate layers, good meat birds, and I just happen to like that black and white coloring better than the coloring on the Buffs or others. I miss our Tank like crazy - and so does Kendra. Tank used to ride on Kendra's lap when she was out in her wheelchair, and was always the first to greet the new chicks as they ventured out of the brooder for the first time.

2) Easter Eggers, for all of the reason previously cited, plus their overall quirky looks.

3) Speckled Sussex. Again, moderate but relatively reliable layers. Spunky, ever curious, and I love the way they look like dappled sunshine when they're out in the yard.

4) Light Brahmas. Oh, I said that already? Well, that should tell you something!

5) Silkies. Personality plus...pocket lint with legs. Love their appearance, although just once I'd like to get one that didn't turn out to be a rooster!

- Standard Cochins- because they’re gentle, huge and fluffy and come in all sorts of beautiful colors and patterns. (I have a beautiful Cochin pullet in a color variety that I can’t find anywhere online)

- Black copper Marans - Gorgeous plumage, inquisitive personality and the most beautiful dark brown eggs.

- Silkies - They’re ridiculously cute and quirky, very friendly and sweet and love to hatch eggs. Plus I love all the colors they come in (I have a white Silkie)

- Ameracaunas - I’m a sucker for colored eggs so I love this breed. I also love their funny ear muffs and their generally outgoing personality, plus they come in multiple colors (I have 3: buff, black and splash)

- Orpingtons - Big and round, like the Cochins, lots of color varieties, good layers, generally friendly.
