The hatchery here in New Mexico, Privett Hatchery, was looking for help last year. One of their requirements was that you cannot own chickens lest you bring in disease on your person.

Yep, right.....wonder how closely they check, if at all.
Also wonders what the procedure for entering is...mere shoe dip or coveralls or full clothing change with dedicated shoes.

I want to start up a D'Uccle breeding program in a few years.

I don't remember the exact protocol but I believe it was along these lines of special clothing and shoes. They sounded pretty paranoid, totally understandable!

I worked in a pharmaceutical plant for 20 years, we had varying levels of product protection. I quit doing freelance(few years after 'retiring') there due to the increasing requirements for entry.
Know a lot about cross contamination, it's ridiculously easy to commit it...and takes a lot to monitor it.

I would imagine its no different than catching the flu from going to the grocery store. When it comes to poultry, we carry all kinds of bacteria and viruses around after leaving our flocks, and the flock shows no symptoms at all.

If you work for a hatchery, can you keep your own flock-especially if it has Mareks?

I wondered the same. Made it pretty clear in my resume that I keep a flock, and so far, nothing has been said. I even mentioned currently rehabilitating an injured Silkie in my room to the owner of one of the hatcheries. They're still planning a second meeting with me next month, supposedly.

Ridgway was considering me for an office job, rather than working directly with the birds.

Anything revolving around poultry would suit me well, even if it means working in an office.

That is probably totally different.
But if you had the Mareks confirmed by a lab, you should mention it.
